Well our fate was known very early after that big mistake at the first by Seldom Inn and Loch Linnhe faired little better to give us a our first no return Saturday in quite a while…….apologies also as the Timeform didn’t update from the day previous that!
Back to today…..
Exeter’s best chase (15.40) is just a 7 runner and it’s hard to oppose Tom Lacey’s Albertos Dream on his ‘5-timer’ quest and possibly one for you lumpers. It could also be said of his later runner, Colt Lightning (16.45) who also is a strong looking favourite with his prior race victory franked when runner up, Sackett won 10 days ago.
Grove Silver (15.55) is our only tracker of the day at Carlisle – he’s well proven in C4 having failed in more than a double handful of attempts out of it. He gets the conditions he relishes and should go well but at too short odds for us to make an EW play. The following race see’s Don McCain’s Knock House go at just short of ‘wipes yer face’ price but again no real EW value.
Timeform is below for the Carlisle meet.

1.50 Enhanced Place Odds At 188bet Mobile Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle (4) (D.I) 2m1f
Timeform Top Rated:
116 3. ASTAROLAND Jennie Candlish James Bowen
115 2. HIT AND RUN Donald McCain Lorcan Murtagh (3)
112 4. FORT JEFFERSON Oliver Greenall Robert Hawker (3)
Analyst’s Verdict:
Astaroland is blowing hot and cold, but he’s potentially well treated if putting his best foot forward (booking of James Bowen catches the eye). Skywards Reward is edging up the weights but has to be respected, while Fort Jefferson shouldn’t be written off at this early stage.
2.20 Enhanced Place Odds At 188bet Mobile Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle (4) (D.II) 2m1f
Timeform Top Rated:
115 8. SHANAWAY Stuart Coltherd Sam Coltherd
113 1. SAINT FREULE Lucinda Russell Blair Campbell (3)
112 3. INNISCASTLE LAD Donald McCain Lorcan Murtagh (3)
Analyst’s Verdict:
Robintheaulad was travelling well before falling in both starts over fences but can put that behind him back over hurdles here, and looks to have a solid chance of success. Inniscastle Lad seems in good heart and could be the one for the forecast, though Instingtive is another interesting contender who could well be on the scene at the finish.
2.50 Grand National Betting At 188bet Chase (Novices’ Limited Handicap) (3) 1m7f207y
Timeform Top Rated:
140§ 1. DERINTOHER YANK Donald McCain Brian Hughes
138 2. CRACKING FIND Sue Smith Danny Cook
137+ 4. MIDNIGHT WALK Donald McCain Will Kennedy
Analyst’s Verdict:
Cracking Find showed a willing attitude when landing a second chase win at Catterick last month and is selected to go in again here. Derintoher Yank has been well below par on his last 2 starts but is back on a decent mark if cheekpieces have a reviving effect.
3.25 Pauline Phizacklea Memorial Novices’ Hurdle (Qualifier) (4) 2m1f
Timeform Top Rated:
139p 1. FIN AND GAME Donald McCain Brian Hughes
134 2. CORNERSTONE LAD Micky Hammond Henry Brooke
132 4. MCGOWAN’S PASS Sandy Thomson Rachael McDonald (7)
Analyst’s Verdict:
Fin And Game has twelve pounds of penalties to carry thanks to his winning run but hasn’t stopped improving yet and should prove very hard to beat again this afternoon for his in-form stable. Cornerstone Lad is also in good heart and won’t be far away, leaving McGowan’s Pass and perhaps Kelpies Myth to fight it out for the minor placing.
3.55 Premier League Betting At 188bet Handicap Chase (4) 2½m
Timeform Top Rated:
129 1. GROVE SILVER Jennie Candlish Sean Quinlan
128 4. PRESENT FLIGHT Lucinda Russell Blair Campbell (5)
125 7. ZAYFIRE ARAMIS Michael Scudamore Ben Poste
Analyst’s Verdict:
Grove Silver has an excellent record at this track and is taken to follow up last month’s C&D win. Zayfire Aramis and Doktor Glaz are feared most.
4.30 Read Noel Fehily At 188bet Handicap Hurdle (3) 3m1f
Timeform Top Rated:
134 1. KNOCK HOUSE Donald McCain Brian Hughes
133 3. AENGUS Jennie Candlish Sean Quinlan
131 2. TOO MANY CHIEFS Sharon Watt Finian O’Toole (3)
Analyst’s Verdict:
My Old Gold remains with potential in handicap hurdles after a good second to a subsequent winner at Ayr and could be the way to go here. Knock House is a big player after catching the eye on his return at Musselburgh, while Carlton Ryan could go well also.
5.00 US Masters Betting At 188bet Novices’ Handicap Chase (4) 2½m198y
Timeform Top Rated:
114 3. MAHLERDRAMATIC Brian Ellison Danny Cook
113p 1. ASKING QUESTIONS Oliver Greenall Harry Skelton
113§ 14. MR WITMORE Kenny Johnson Henry Brooke
Analyst’s Verdict:
Asking Questions surpassed his previous exploits under Rules when making a winning chase debut over C&D last month, and he looks to have been found a good opportunity to follow up with further improvement expected. Mahlerdramatic, Romulus du Donjon and Court Baloo are a trio of others to consider.
5.30 Play Blackjack At 188bet Casino Standard Open National Hunt Flat (5) 2m1f
Timeform Top Rated:
115 3. COPPER COIN Michael Scudamore Ben Poste
114 5. DR HOOVES Lucinda Russell Blair Campbell (5)
112 8. MACARDLE Philip Kirby Thomas Dowson (3)
Analyst’s Verdict:
Finley’s Eyes makes plenty of appeal on paper, being a half-brother to the same yard’s useful hurdler Listen To The Man, and is selected to make a winning debut. Largy Glory represents a trainer/jockey combination which has enjoyed bumper success here recently and is another interesting newcomer. Copper Coin and Macardle may prove best of those with experience.
