Despite evening meetings at HQ and Haydock it looks like we’re back to numerous cards with under eight runners that is really disappointing with our approach. We don’t really want to get involved in 10 runner C6’s at Brighton or Musselburgh – the only one we had of note was Mark Johnston’s Poetic Steps in the (15.00) down on the south coast, and again that’s likely to be under 4’s.…..we’ll keep our powder dry for the weekend 🙂

Firelight still looked far from the finished article when opening her account at Kempton, and group-race entries suggest that she’s thought capable of a good deal better. As such, the Oasis Dream filly may well prove good enough to defy a penalty. Assembly of Truth disappointed last time but it’s far too soon to write her off, while likely-looking newcomers Ice Gala and King’s Girl merit respect.

Capla Gilda hasn’t been with Archie Watson long and got off the mark at the first time of asking for her new handler at Ffos Las last week. There could be more to come yet. Fast Endeavour and Be Proud are others to consider.

The market will prove the best guide here, but Bye Bye Hong Kong was an expensive purchase earlier this year and is bred for this sort of test. He gets the vote. John Gosden holds a strong hand with 3 runners, and his Kick On and Albert Finney particularly catch the eye.

Love To Breeze pulled well clear of the rest when second to a highly progressive filly at Goodwood and, in light of the winner’s subsequent exploits, a 4 lb rise for that looks very fair indeed. This intermediate trip should be ideal and she is taken to go one better this time. Majrooh is next best ahead of My Boy Sepoy and course specialist Trulee Scrumptious.

It’s hard to resist the allure of the unexposed Godolphin filly Fountain of Time, who lost little caste in defeat when surrendering her unbeaten status at Chelmsford last time. She should have more to offer now switched to turf. With Hunni and Marilyn both engaged at Yarmouth on Thursday, Daddies Girl and Morning Has Broken can fill the places.

Wentworth Falls went like the best horse at the weights when runner-up in a falsely-run race at Nottingham last time and is still on a handy mark. He is fancied to land the finale. Summerghand just prevailed in that contest and has run well since. He rates the principal danger.
