Friday Newsletter – 11th January 2019
A day for the lumpers yesterday with 6 very short short priced winning favourites at Catterick….the highest priced at Leicester being a 5/1 shot 🙁 Friday isn’t a whole heap better at this stage with just one handicap race with double digit 10 runners!
However, there’s one of note at Huntingdon that drops a couple of grades and maybe slightly underestimated on form so far this term.
There’s Timeform below for Sedgefield for those looking elsewhere.
For those on the £1k to £10k challenge….we’ve now over a 33% win/place strike rate …..our bank is now £840.27 and current stakes are now £10.50 EW

1.20 Todds Highways Handicap Hurdle (5) 2m3f188y
Timeform Top Rated:
112 1. BEST TO COME Keith Dalgleish Brian Hughes
111 2. DANCEINTOTHELIGHT Donald McCain Miss Abbie McCain (7)
109 3. HEAR THE CHIMES Shaun Harris Paddy Brennan
Analyst’s Verdict:
Danceintothelight was back on song when runner-up at Catterick last time and is worth siding with to build on that at a venue where he’s enjoyed success in the past. Best To Come rates an obvious danger after a promising first run for Keith Dalgleish here on Boxing Day, while Magic Dragon appeals as a potential improver now handicapping.
1.50 Brian Ellison Racing Club Novices’ Handicap Chase (Qualifier) (4) 2m77y
Timeform Top Rated:
130§ 1. CASTLETOWN Pauline Robson Henry Brooke
113 4. CHAMPION CHASE Martin Bosley James Best
113 6. TROOBLUE Sue Smith Danny Cook
Analyst’s Verdict:
Champion Chase isn’t streets ahead of his mark but he’s consistent in the main and should be straight for this third outing of the campaign, so he gets the vote to overcome the seemingly well-in Castletown, who often come unstuck in a battle. An improved showing from Newquay Cards isn’t out of the question trying fences for the first time.
2.20 Phoenix Security Novices’ Hurdle (4) 2m3f188y
Timeform Top Rated:
132p 5. WHITEOAK FLEUR Donald McCain William Kennedy
129 1. I’M TO BLAME Keith Dalgleish Brian Hughes
124 2. MANAMITE Ben Haslam Richie McLernon
Analyst’s Verdict:
Whiteoak Fleur produced a promising first effort over hurdles when third at Kelso last month, noted sticking to her task. Open to improvement, she is fancied to make her mark in this field. I’m To Blame will find this less demanding than his latest Newcastle assignment and ought to provide the leading threat.
2.50 Sprayclad UK Handicap Chase (3) 2m3f65y
Timeform Top Rated:
139 3. TAYZAR Ruth Jefferson Jamie Hamilton
137 4. INSTANT REPLAY Brian Ellison Brian Hughes
134 1. OAK VINTAGE Philip Kirby Sean Quinlan
Analyst’s Verdict:
This looks competitive despite the small field with narrow preference for Tayzar, who is capable of winning off this mark. Instant Replay has a good record here and is feared most.
3.20 Happy New Year From Paxtons Handicap Chase (Qualifier) (4) 3¼m59y
Timeform Top Rated:
122 5. NORTONTHORPELEGEND Rebecca Menzies Mr Aaron Anderson (7)
120 4. SIDEWAYS Christian Williams Nick Scholfield
119§ 1. CRANK EM UP Simon West John Kington
Analyst’s Verdict:
The switch to positive tactics seems to have revitalised Nortonthorpelegend, who is chasing a hat-trick and still looks well treated on old form. He can go in again. Recent Fakenham winner Sideways looks the obvious danger.
3.50 Spray Technologies Aerosols Standard Open National Hunt Flat (5) 2m178y
Timeform Top Rated:
108 2. DARES TO DREAM Philip Kirby Sean Quinlan
101 8. BEAST OF BELSTANE Keith Dalgleish Brian Hughes
96+ 1. ADELPHI PRINCE Philip Kirby Ross Chapman
Analyst’s Verdict:
Dares To Dream had plenty in hand here on Boxing Day and is selected to make light of a penalty, although strong market support for Brian Ellison newcomer Ranskill Road would put a slightly different slant on things. The selection’s stablemate Adelphi Prince is another potential threat if the betting speaks for him.
