Friday – 19th October 2018

Two meetings on the flat today…..both north of Watford with Haydock and Redcar. It’s been a quiet week on the selections front, however it kicked off with a nice winner with Gabrial The Tiger so let’s look to end the week on a high with a couple of member selections.

As we mentioned Friday’s thoughts in Thursday’s notes, there’s obviously been a bit of early take on price. Hence we’re publishing early if anyone hasn’t picked it up?

We’re just waiting on Timeform coming through…..so no emails about THURSDAY’S still being visible 🙂

We’re now at nearly £3,700 for those on the £1k to £10k challenge….our bank has NOW grown by over 260% with an ROI of over 25%….current stakes are now £45.86 EW

1.40 Smarkets Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle (Qualifier) (4) 2m1f33y

Timeform Top Rated
120§ 2. SAINT FREULE Lucinda Russell Blair Campbell (3)
119 6. MINELLA FIVEO Sue Smith Kane Yeoman (8)
118 3. CANNY STYLE Kevin Ryan Ryan Day

Analyst’s Verdict:
Zabeel Star didn’t show a great deal in his qualifying runs over hurdles for his previous handler, yet his opening mark based on his Flat form makes him appealing, and he could be worth chancing without the benefit of market clues. Green Zone, Wazowski and Shadow Sadness are others fancied to feature.

2.10 £50 Risk Free On Racing With Smarkets Chase (Novices’ Limited Handicap) (3) 1m7f207y

Timeform Top Rated
139 2. BULKOV Micky Hammond Alain Cawley
135 8. MISTER KIT Chris Grant Callum Bewley

Analyst’s Verdict:
A cracking race, featuring quite a few who could do well over fences this season. Fin And Game gets a tentative vote for Donald McCain, who took this race 12 months ago, but there are lots of dangers, headed by Du Soleil, Blottos and Bulkov.

2.45 Smarkets Novices’ Hurdle (4) (D.I) 2m1f33y

Timeform Top Rated
140p 1. RETURN TICKET Ruth Jefferson Sean Bowen
121 11. MALINDI BAY James Evans Ben Poste
97 12. WISE COCO Alistair Whillans Ross Chapman (3)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Good Boy Bobby did very well in bumpers last term, with his only defeat in 4 starts coming when third at listed level, and he’s expected to take a bit of stopping on his hurdles bow. Return Ticket did it nicely in a similar event at Ayr in May and could be the one to give him most to do ahead of Donald McCain’s bumper winner The Some Dance Kid.

3.15 Smarkets Novices’ Hurdle (4) (D.II) 2m1f33y

Timeform Top Rated
114p 9. TORRID Michael Easterby Sean Bowen
113 6. MAYBE MICKEY Simon Waugh Sam Coltherd (5)
87 2. BARNEY’S CAULKER Maurice Barnes Dale Irving (3)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Windsor Avenue and Al Dancer were both above-average winners in bumpers who appeal as rather exciting additions to the hurdling ranks, so they’re taken to fight this out, with the former perhaps having the edge based on his previous experience over obstacles between the flags. Fellow ex-pointer First Account is another who makes appeal.

3.45 smarkets.com Handicap Chase (Qualifier) (3) 3m110y

Timeform Top Rated
149 1. TINTERN THEATRE Nigel Twiston-Davies Sam Twiston-Davies
147 5. LOOSE CHIPS Charlie Longsdon Paul O’Brien (5)
147? 9. BLAKEMOUNT Sue Smith Danny Cook

Analyst’s Verdict:
Despite failing to justify strong support, Sky Pirate offered plenty to work on starting out over fences at Uttoxeter, and given his looks and point background, will be winning races in this sphere sooner rather than later. Cooking Fat is second choice, though a fully-wound up Tintern Theatre would be a big threat.

4.20 Get sbk.com The Super-Price Sportsbook Handicap Hurdle (4) 2½m8y

Timeform Top Rated
130 12. QUIDS IN Donald McCain Brian Hughes
129 3. PINEAPPLE RUSH Philip Hobbs Richard Johnson
128 5. PRESENCE FELT John Dixon Mr John Dixon (7)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Supporters of Quids In were far from it on his recent return at Bangor, but he looked to finish with running left and is worth chancing to make amends from a 2 lb lower mark. Pineapple Rush is feared most ahead of Budarri.

4.55 Smarkets Betting Exchange Handicap Chase (4) 1m7f207y

Timeform Top Rated
125 5. RYALEX Lucinda Russell Stephen Mulqueen (3)
122 1. MIDDLEBROW Donald McCain Brian Hughes
120 3. SLEEP IN FIRST James Ewart Steven Fox (5)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Not a strong-looking race and Ryalex could be worth chancing back over fences in the hope he comes on for last month’s return at Perth after a long absence. Middlebrow could be the danger if in the mood with a re-fitted tongue tie.

5.30 smarkets.com EBF Mares’ Standard Open National Hunt Flat (Qualifier) (5) 2m1f33y

Timeform Top Rated
114 2. KALIFORNIA Henry Daly Andrew Tinkler
108 12. REGARDING RUTH Lucy Wadham Leighton Aspell
107+ 1. CEDAR VALLEY Philip Hobbs Richard Johnson

Analyst’s Verdict:
Cedar Valley ran respectably in the Grade 2 mares’ bumper at Aintree on Grand National day when last seen and could make a successful return kept to this sphere. Bangorwinner Kalifornia is the big danger on her comeback. Mega Yeats heads a number of interesting newcomers.
