Friday Newsletter – 1st March 2019

Newbury is the principal meeting today and interestingly one we had decent success with on the flat a few years back, Eddiemaurice, goes in the (14.50). He’s posted a couple of decent efforts this term. He reverts back chasing where he is 0-3 and where he hasn’t jumped convincingly, though does come in on a sub 120 mark that does offer some EW appeal but just two paying slots.

In the (16.30) our LTO Donny winner Skidoosh rates one for the lumpers at around 7/2 carrying a large 12-6 (inc 7lb) penalty and Ben Pauling gets him out here before another 7lb rise tomorrow. It’s a big field and that price doesn’t really offer us any value and could easily succumb to one of the improvers in this.

Timeform below is for Donny – there’s just one of note and that’s from in-form Mark Johnston as he readies his string for the flat. Dr Richard Kimble is out in another disappointing 7 runner (14.40) – he’s a decent flat sort and put in a decent showing at Newcastle on penultimate run in a maiden hurdle. LTO not quite as effective but still is one who acts on the firmer going and on around 7’s and the two paying slots negates a members pick.

Members notes are below….but on another tack…with just 10 days till the tapes go up at Prestbury Park we have had access to a great article written by Matt at Geegeez to help you with some winner finding and thoughts on bets to avoid!

Timeform Top Rated:
114 2. NAVAJO WAR DANCE Ali Stronge Danny McMenamin (3)
112p 3. LEGAL HISTORY David Pipe Fergus Gregory
111§ 7. FIRST OF NEVER Lynn Siddall Blair Campbell

Analyst’s Verdict:
Legal History has shown plenty in 2 runs over hurdles and should have more to offer now handicapping keeping in mind his fairly useful form on the level. He can open his account at the main expense of Navajo War Dance.

Timeform Top Rated:
134 1. COOLE WELL Jamie Snowden Max Kendrick (5)
126+ 4. PEPPAY LE PUGH Dan Skelton Harry Skelton
125 6. DR RICHARD KIMBLE Mark Johnston Connor King

Analyst’s Verdict:
Coole Well has made an encouraging start to his career over hurdles and looks to have been found a decent opportunity to get back to winning ways. Peppay Le Pugh has had a productive season chasing and can provide the main threat now back over timber.

126+ 4. AWAY FOR SLATES Milton Harris Kevin Jones (3)
124 3. THYNE FOR GOLD Donald McCain Brian Hughes
123? 1. MONT ROYALE Jonjo O’Neill Richie McLernon

Analyst’s Verdict:
Away For Slates has taken well to fences and can defy a penalty for his win at Catterick last week. Likely-pacesetter Thyne For Gold is feared most.

Timeform Top Rated:
132 3. ITS ALL A LARK Donald McCain Brian Hughes
129 2. RATOUTE YUTTY Dan Skelton Harry Skelton
128 4. PETERS COUSIN Nicky Richards Aidan Coleman

Analyst’s Verdict:
Ratoute Yutty needs to shrug off a lesser effort at Chepstow recently, yet Dan Skelton’s mare had previously shaped with a good deal of promise in defeat, and the drop back in trip may well play to her strengths now. Its All A Lark and Iconic Belle are feared most in a competitive small-field affair.

4.20 888Sport Take ‘Em On British EBF Mares’ ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle (Qualifier) (4) 2m3f88y

Timeform Top Rated:

138 1. OSCAR ROSE Fergal O’Brien Paddy Brennan
132 2. THE WHITE MOUSE Lucy Wadham Daryl Jacob

Analyst’s Verdict:
Oscar Rose hasn’t really achieved what may have been expected of her over hurdles, but she’s back in novice company here and is very much the one to beat. The White Mouse is the obvious danger with Big Fiddle a long-term project.

4.50 888Sport Handicap Hurdle (4) 2m3f88y

Timeform Top Rated:
139 3. BROUGHTONS ADMIRAL Alastair Ralph Lee Edwards
132 1. SUGGESTION Philip Kirby Thomas Dowson (3)
131 2. MARKOV Ben Pauling Daryl Jacob

Analyst’s Verdict:
Broughtons Admiral emerged with plenty of credit pushing a well-handicapped rival close at Carlisle recently and can confirm himself to be ahead of the game from the same mark. Suggestion also arrives in top form and has to be the main danger will doubts surrounding Markov at present.

5.20 888Sport Novices’ Chase (4) 2m78y

Timeform Top Rated:
125+ 2. POPPY KAY Olly Murphy Aidan Coleman

Analyst’s Verdict:
Useful-hurdler Poppy Kay didn’t convince with her jumping on her chase bow back in May but this is a complete mismatch and a clear round will be all that is required starting out for Olly Murphy.
