Friday Newsletter – 21st December 2018

Broadway Belle drifted like a barge after posting yesterday in a race that was won by a Micky Hammond blot who was available at 66’s early doors!

We’ll crack on with meets at Ascot and Uttoxeter today with supporting Timeform for the former. Nothing from Ascot for us and we’ll concentrate on the Midlands venue.

In the (12.30) Captain Drake looks one for the lumpers – he’s a big unit built eventually for chasing and Noel Fehily’s charge should come on for those two previous outings and down a grade her. Obviously of no EW value and we’ll look at a couple of others to get this pot moving North 🙂

For those on the new £1k to £10k, current stakes are now £11.38 EW and the bank stands at £910.70.

12.45 eventmasters.co.uk Maiden Hurdle (3) 2m5f141y

Timeform Top Rated:
143P 8. IGOR Nicky Henderson Mr Sam Waley-Cohen (3)
142p 12. SOUTHERN SAM Oliver Sherwood Aidan Coleman
138p 9. LARKBARROW LAD Philip Hobbs Richard Johnson

Analyst’s Verdict:
A strong maiden hurdle which could go the way of Igor who made a really pleasing debut at this track and should step forward enough to get off the mark at the expense of his stablemate Gallahers Cross, a point/bumper winner who could have improved further in the year he’s been off. Southern Sam is another one to consider in a fascinating contest.

1.20 Bet With Ascot Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase (3) 2m167y

Timeform Top Rated:
149p 1. AZZERTI Alan King Wayne Hutchinson
147 4. RISK AND ROLL Paul Nicholls Harry Cobden
135p 2. DUSTIN DES MOTTES Dr Richard Newland Sam Twiston-Davies

Analyst’s Verdict:
Azzerti matched his useful hurdles form at the second attempt when third here 4 weeks ago and gets the vote with further improvement on the cards. Risk And Roll and Dustin des Mottes are feared most.

1.55 Sky Bet Supreme Trial Novices’ Hurdle (Kennel Gate) (Grade 2) (1) 1m7f152y

Timeform Top Rated:
151p 10. THOMAS DARBY Olly Murphy Richard Johnson
150p 9. THISTLE DO NICELY Jamie Snowden Aidan Coleman
144p 7. SEDDON Tom George Paddy Brennan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Thomas Darby still looked green when narrowly denied over C&D last month and surely has more in the locker. He receives the vote, though Nicky Henderson’s newcomer Angels Breath is highly respected. Champagne Court impressed at Lingfield and shouldn’t be underestimated given that the runner-up ran a sound race at Newbury earlier in the week.

2.30 Noel Novices’ Chase (Grade 2) (1) 2m5f8y

Timeform Top Rated:
167p 4. VINNDICATION Kim Bailey David Bass
164p 2. LIL ROCKERFELLER Neil King Wayne Hutchinson
163p 1. COUNT MERIBEL Nigel Twiston-Davies Mark Grant

Analyst’s Verdict:
All 4 are closely matched given what they have achieved over fences so far but the unbeaten Vinndication appeals as the most exciting prospect and makes the greatest appeal. Count Meribel did well to win at Cheltenham last time and is next best.

3.05 Thames Materials Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle (3) 2m5f141y

Timeform Top Rated:
140 13. ALWAYS RESOLUTE Ian Williams Edward Austin (8)
139 16. NO NO JULIET Oliver Sherwood Harrison Beswick (6)
137 9. DARLING MALTAIX Paul Nicholls Lorcan Williams (3)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Always Resolute was a smooth winner under Edward Austin on last month’s first outing for Ian Williams and a 9 lb rise may not stop him as he remains well treated on his peak form. No No Juliet did it readily at Fontwell last week and is a possible big threat under a penalty, while Nicky Henderson’s No Hiding Place is also much respected on the back of his Kempton win.

3.40 St Andrews Holdings Championship Standard Open National Hunt Flat (Listed) (1)1m7f152y

Timeform Top Rated:
127p 11. THE GLANCING QUEEN Alan King Wayne Hutchinson
123p 9. THOR DE CERISY Michael Scudamore Brendan Powell
121p 6. HAZZAAR Tom Lacey Aidan Coleman

Analyst’s Verdict:
The Glancing Queen‘s listed win in mares company is just about the best form on offer, and though she takes on a plethora of nice prospects, the 3 lb she receives may well prove to be telling. Thor de Cerisy and Hazzaar are feared most in what is a very good race of its type.
