Friday – 22nd June 2018

With no selections yesterday it’s straight into Friday with decent meets outside of Ascot to consider. As yesterday, only the last offers anything older than 4yo with The Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes (17.30). Thundering Blue would be our tentative pick in that – he looked an easy winner over the 10f LTO. He wasn’t for stopping when he beat Banditry at York and if he gets the 12f has better than wipes yer face EW value at best 7’s with 4 paying slots…….for those still looking at the Royal meeting, the speedmeisters ratings are below.

However, there’s more of interest to us elsewhere with Redcar on and we’re looking for a couple of options over there.

In the 15.30, Les Eyre’s Dawaaleb had looked progressive until coming unstuck at Ripon LTO – this race has just gone a 7 runner and was one who raced in that race at Ponty way back, when we backed Society Red for a place and latterly the nice priced winner at York, he’s a consistent type who should have been the 3 slots if it had stayed the even 8……..despite overlooking this one there’s a couple for members below from this meet.

Outside of that, local handler Eric Alston takes his ex-Bin Suroor charge Magfoor up to Wetherby for the 18.45 – he’s one for you lumpers at around 9/4 – he ran well at Chester from a poor draw to finish 3rd of 10. He needs a strong pace to come off and hopefully Joey Haynes will provide that on the 33/1 outsider, Mysterial.

For those on the £1k to £10k challenge….our bank has grown by over 70% with an ROI of over 43%….current stakes are now £21.03 EW

2.30 Albany Stakes (Group 3) (1) 6f

Timeform Top Rated:
113p 10. MAIN EDITION Mark Johnston James Doyle
110p 5. FAIRYLAND Aidan O’Brien Seamie Heffernan
109P 8. JUST WONDERFUL Aidan O’Brien Ryan Moore

Analyst’s Verdict:
Just Wonderful makes most appeal after a highly encouraging winning debut at the Curragh last month. She’s taken to improve considerably and could be set for the very top (her dam got to a rating of 116 in just 3 juvenile races for Aidan O’Brien). Her stablemate Fairyland has won both her starts to date and commands plenty of respect, as does Main Edition, who has scope for further progress.

3.05 King Edward VII Stakes (Group 2) (1) 1m3f211y

Timeform Top Rated:
127 2. DELANO ROOSEVELT Aidan O’Brien Ryan Moore
126p 6. OLD PERSIAN Charlie Appleby William Buick
125 8. ROSTROPOVICH Aidan O’Brien Donnacha O’Brien

Analyst’s Verdict:
Old Persian continues to go from strength to strength and his stamina remains an unopened door to progress, often shaping as though ready for this step up to 1½m, and he should make a bold bid. Raa Atoll looks highly progressive and is another to consider for team Gosden/Dettori, while Delano Roosevelt heads a 3-strong team from Ballydoyle.

3.40 Commonwealth Cup (Group 1) (1) 6f

Timeform Top Rated:
131 15. SIOUX NATION Aidan O’Brien Ryan Moore
130 11. INVINCIBLE ARMY James Tate James Doyle
130 14. SANDS OF MALI Richard Fahey Paul Hanagan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Sioux Nation has a progressive record on going faster than good and can provide his trainer with a second successive winner in this race. Sands of Mali and Invincible Army are very closely matched on Sandy Lane form and this likeable pair look sure to give good accounts of themselves, while Equilateral and Emblazoned are lightly-raced sorts who have the potential for better still.

4.20 Coronation Stakes (Group 1) (1) 7f213y

Timeform Top Rated:
132p 7. CLEMMIE Aidan O’Brien Ryan Moore
131 5. BILLESDON BROOK Richard Hannon Sean Levey
130 3. ALPHA CENTAURI Mrs J. Harrington Colm O’Donoghue

Analyst’s Verdict:
Clemmie became the first offspring of Galileo to win a Group 1 over 6f last season, and as a sister to dual-Guineas winner Churchill, she should have more to offer over 1m having shaped encouragingly on her return in the Irish 1000 Guineas. There was no fluke about Billesdon Brook’s win in the Guineas at Newmarket and she has to be considered, while Threading makes each-way appeal at bigger odds.

5.00 Sandringham Stakes (Handicap) (2) 1m

Timeform Top Rated:
120 19. PERFECTION John Gosden Nicky Mackay
119 22. BUBBLE AND SQUEAK Sylvester Kirk Luke Morris
118 18. WISDOM MIND Joseph Patrick O’Brien W. M. Lordan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Agrotera looked a useful filly in the making when opening her account at Windsor last month and appeals as the type to do better still now given a crack in handicap company. She gets the vote in what looks a highly competitive event. Ceilidhs Dream is feared most with the return to this trip likely to play to her strengths, whilst Wisdom Mind, Perfection and Ganayem are also much respected.

5.35 Duke of Edinburgh Stakes (Handicap) (2) 1m3f211y

Timeform Top Rated:
122p 13. DASH OF SPICE David Elsworth Silvestre De Sousa
119 11. SAUNTER Ian Williams Jim Crowley
118+ 15. EYNHALLOW Charlie Appleby James McDonald

Analyst’s Verdict:
Not beaten far when fourth in this race off the same mark last year, Top Tug should be spot-on following his solid Goodwood reappearance and is an appealing alternative to Dash of Spice, with value in mind. Dash of Spice is a greatly respected main danger following his impressive performance at Epsom, while Blakeney Point also enters calculations, along with Appeared and Walton Street.
