Friday Newsletter – 22nd March 2019

Musselburgh and Newbury today with Timeform for the former below. There’s nothing of interest north of the border and just a couple of trackers out….. one we had a bit about in January was Graham McPherson’s POPERINGHE GINGER who going in the (15.25) at Newbury.

We managed a 13/2 2nd place that day but was beaten NTO when a heavy odds on favourite. He is a big strong sort who was set a tough assignment on jumps debut this season in a C1 Listed at Haydock, but wasn’t disgraced finishing the race off well after a couple of errors. The trainer seriously ups him in class and trip for this one and it will be interesting to see how he goes in this 13 runner on handicap debut. The best 6’s looks a little mean with the trainer not showing much over the last month.

Another of note goes in the opener where Nick Alexander comes along way down with CALVIGNY for a tilt at the (14.20) Be Wiser Insurance Handicap Chase. Daughter Lucy Alexander is in the saddle as she has been for the vast majority of his races. The horse is only one of a couple close to a last winning mark and he is a very sound jumper who goes well at this trip….9’s looks a bit of value for EW bettors 🙂

That’s all for today and we’ll pop our Saturday thoughts up around 10.00am in the morning.

For those on the £1k to £10k challenge it’s currently a 32% win/place strike rate…..our bank is now £495.71 and stakes are now £6.20 EW

134 2. TIGHT CALL Tim Vaughan Alan Johns

124 1. MORRAMAN Donald McCain Miss Abbie McCain (5)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Tight Call was in the process of posting another good effort when departing late on at Ascot last time and this looks a good opportunity for him to notch another win. Course-scorer Morraman is narrowly preferred to Animore for the forecast spot.

107 1. WOT A SHOT Nicky Richards Brian Hughes
106 3. GEMOLOGIST Lucinda Russell Blair Campbell (5)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Wot A Shot is a capable sort in this grade and is taken to add to his C&D win at the start of the year. Weapon of Choice travelled with plenty of purpose until 2 out on his recent return from a break at Catterick and is expected to last longer with that outing behind him. Gemologist was third in maiden company here on her recent first start for Lucinda Russell and is also respected.

132+ 6. KING GOLAN Kenny Johnson Sean Quinlan
131 1. WISHFULL DREAMING Sam England Jonathan England
131 5. THE ROAD HOME Lucinda Russell Derek Fox

Analyst’s Verdict:
Wishfull Dreaming is getting the hang of things over fences now, winning 2 of his last 3 starts, and can defy a penalty after a stylish success here 12 days ago. King Golan is next best with The Road Home making most appeal of Lucinda Russell’s trio.

114 2. SHANKILL CASTLE Ian Duncan Brian Hughes
113 1. ICONIC BELLE Philip Kirby Sean Quinlan
109 3. FRAME RATE Iain Jardine Conor O’Farrell

Analyst’s Verdict:
There was plenty to like about the way Frame Rate forged to the front over C&D last time and, in a weak race, there’s an excellent chance he’ll follow up under a penalty unless there’s a revival from Iconic Belle who finds herself in a weaker handicap now. Fairlee Grace isn’t one to write off, either.

108 2. PRESENT FLIGHT Lucinda Russell Thomas Willmott (6)
108 6. KOVERA Tim Vaughan Richard Patrick

Analyst’s Verdict:
It could be worth chancing No No Mac, who’s hinted at a return to form since rejoining this yard. So Satisfied looks the obvious threat having won a class 4 over C&D 3 weeks ago.

112 6. CHANCEANOTHERFIVE Stuart Coltherd Sam Coltherd (3)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Splash The Cash was much improved when second here a fortnight ago and can open her account now with this even longer trip sure to suit. Chanceanotherfive is feared most ahead of Yeats Baby.

97 2. DANCED EVERY DANCE Donald Whillans Craig Nichol

Analyst’s Verdict:
Methodtothemadness produced a promising first effort under Rules when third at Doncaster a couple of months back and a reproduction of that may well be good enough to see her come out on top. Of the rest, 4-y-o filly Hello Bob needs a market check for a yard that does well with its runners in this sphere.
