1.20 Matchbook Betting Exchange Nursery Handicap (3) 1m

Timeform Top Rated:
106p 5. PREJUDICE Luca Cumani Jamie Spencer
103p 6. HAWRIDGE STORM Rod Millman Non Runner
103 3. BIG BABY BULL Richard Hannon P. J. McDonald

Analyst’s Verdict:
Prejudice looked a useful prospect when beating a pair of subsequent winners in impressive style on nursery bow at Redcar and can defy a 10 lb hit. Alfurat River and Korcho are feared most.

1.50 Matchbook Time To Move Over EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (5) 1m

Timeform Top Rated:
92p 1. AMBLING John Gosden Robert Havlin
92p 7. JUST MY TYPE Roger Varian David Egan
91 2. BLUE GARDENIA David O’Meara Shane Gray

Analyst’s Verdict:
Ambling has shown enough to suggest she can win a maiden and gets the vote over Just My Type, who also has potential. Galileo-filly Ghaziyah makes most appeal of the newcomers.

2.25 Matchbook Betting Podcast EBF Maiden Stakes (5) (D.I) 7f6y

Timeform Top Rated:
98 8. NUBOUGH Charles Hills Callum Shepherd
91 10. REEVES Robert Cowell P. J. McDonald
85P 11. SOLID STONE Sir Michael Stoute Richard Kingscote

Analyst’s Verdict:
Solid Stone has all the credentials to make into a pattern performer in time. Well bred, in the right hands, and arriving here on the back of a highly promising debut in a really strong race at Newbury, he can be expected to get off the mark at the expense of Nubough, who sets the standard in terms of form. Nabbeyl is the pick of the newcomers.

3.00 Matchbook Betting Podcast EBF Maiden Stakes (5) (D.II) 7f6y

Timeform Top Rated:
83p 9. REGULAR Michael Bell Hayley Turner
72 7. MOTAWAJ Roger Varian David Egan
67P 4. FOREST OF DEAN John Gosden Robert Havlin

Analyst’s Verdict:
Forest of Dean was never in contention on his debut at Sandown, having been very slowly away, but he very much caught the eye by the finish and looks a big improver second-time up for his excellent yard. Derevo is an interesting newcomer and strong market support would need taking seriously. Regular is also considered following an encouraging start at Redcar earlier this month.

3.35 Navigating Brexit With Vertem Stockbrokers Handicap (2) 6f2y

Timeform Top Rated:
116 13. DALTON Julie Camacho Rachel Richardson
115 4. TERUNTUM STAR Kevin Ryan Kevin Stott
115 6. VICTORY ANGEL Roger Varian David Egan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Teruntum Star is handicapped to win and gave clear indication that he’s back in form when fourth under a positive ride at York last time so, provided there’s not too much heat up front, he could take plenty of pegging back here. Dalton and Victory Angel look like viable dangers on what they’ve been doing recently, but both are drawn on the flanks.

4.10 Move Over To Matchbook Handicap (3) 1¾m115y

Timeform Top Rated:
103 2. SURYA John Gosden Robert Havlin
102+ 3. DARKSIDEOFTARNSIDE Ian Williams Richard Kingscote
102 4. STONE THE CROWS Iain Jardine Jamie Gormley (3)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Winds of Fire took a while to get to grips with things but was all the more professional last time and has the pedigree for ongoing progress, so he’s taken to follow up at the expense of Darksideoftarnside and Winston C, who are both lightly raced for their current stables.

4.45 Matchbook Is Commission Free Handicap (3) 1¼m43y

Timeform Top Rated:
109p 1. HERCULEAN Roger Charlton Harry Bentley
108 2. RISE HALL Martyn Meade Callum Shepherd
107 10. ESCAPABILITY Mrs J. Harrington Cam Hardie

Analyst’s Verdict:
Herculean is potentially a smart colt in the making and his opening mark could be a lenient one. Rise Hall ran a cracker when third at York on his handicap bow and is next best, while Jamih and Big Kitten remain with potential.

5.20 Amateur Jockeys Association Amateur Riders’ Handicap (5) 1¼m43y

Timeform Top Rated:
98 6. KANNAPOLIS Michael Easterby Miss Joanna Mason
97+ 1. TRALEE HILLS Peter Hedger Mr Simon Walker
96 13. DUKE OF YORKSHIRE Tim Easterby Miss Emily Easterby

Analyst’s Verdict:
Tralee Hills is the least exposed in this line-up, and with the prospect of more to come, he’s taken to follow up his Bath win last week under a penalty. Kannapolis has done very little wrong this year and seems sure to give another good account. Mearing and Edgar Allan Poe are a couple of others who arrive in good nick so merit respect.

On a separate note – we often get asked about our affiliation with the book Always Back Winners by Stewart Simpson – just to clear things up…..we have no association with him, but found it a cracking read in the late 70’s that inspired the introduction to the sport and hence the site name. His exploits were conducted with paddock inspections whilst present at the meeting he was backing in, with no such access to on-line accounts in those days. Much of the rationale concerning ‘top weights on turning tracks’ can still be applied today with supporting information ready to hand from the likes of geegeez, ATR etc which, in theory, makes it whole lot ‘easier’ for the regular punter.

Anyone looking for a winter read during close season whilst we take on the NH…….for which he had no love at all 🙂 ….you can try and grab a copy from the likes of Amazon below….
