Horse Racing Selections – 5th May 2021

Wednesday sees the start of the Boodles May Festival at Chester.

Top class racing with just the last, (16.45), a C4 handicap up for consideration. There’s one in the members notes below

With no ‘official selection’ yesterday. Hopefully most of you took up on NEZAR last night at Wolves from the intro notes? Close to double digit was available for most after the early show. More the pity it didn’t win when selected LTO but maybe justified the selection rationale, or mechanics for one of our ex-members 😉

Back in the morning with more Chester just before 8.30 am.

For those on the new 2021/22 £1k to £10k Annual Challenge, the bank is £1033.51 and current full stakes, unless advised, £12.93 EW

The All Weather bank ended standing at +144 pts to 1pt EW stakes with over a 39% win/place rate.

  1. It has been reported that a man by the name of Michael Heanue has been cut from the track of Wolverhampton station around 20.40 hrs last night, just after the 20.30 train roared in. He was clutching several triangles, a protractor, a T square and a copy of a book called John Napier and the invention of logarithms. He was shouting my angles are always correct and there is no future for mechanical decision making. If anybody can help police with their inquiries into this delicate matter please contact their nearest police station. We would be interested to talk to a man called Gary who Michael mentioned numerous times. This Gary could be dangerous so please don’t approach him alone.

    • LOL Ian….QED 🙂

    • Think I got my chord line segment angle calculation correct for the interior of the elliptical Chester racecourse today. The minor axis is always the shortest axis in an ellipse and I think Broken Spear just about got it all right 🙂

  2. Broken Spear will be a nice touch if it comes in. It is currently 13/1 at bookies and exactly twice that on Betfair!

  3. Not bad Gary, not too bad at all!!!!!!

  4. My word Gary, don’t need many of those a season! Nice drift, never in doubt!! 🙂 Back with a bang, you’re rather good at this flat/AW handicapping game! I do keep trying to tell everyone, onwards.

  5. Boooooooooom

  6. Nice Gary – good selection! Just gutted I took early morning on my BSP element, seemed to make sense compared to rest of month, but going off at 29/1 is just saddening compared to the 14/1 price this morning hah

  7. When I saw the price had drifted to 25 just before the off (i had backed on Hills at 12s) I had another nibble. Glad I did. Well done Gary. Great selection. Thank you.

  8. wow…!!

  9. Not sure where you got that one from Gary but so glad you did! I was more than happy with yesterday’s unofficial mention. Those two together have more than covered the annual subscription even at my £5EW stakes! Well done and hopefully many more to come!

  10. Joined last Friday only to read you were not betting this weekend, well I think I can say it was worth the wait.

    11/1 and 25/1 winners.

Very well done indeed Gary if the pubs were open here in Dublin our local bar would be packed tonight.

Many thanks form the lads here in Dublin.

  11. thanks Gary booooooooom

  12. Fantastic Gary, looks like the break has done you good!

  13. WOW what a comeback Gary!!! Well done mate! I reckon the East Yorkshire air and dipping your toes in the cold sea have done the trick! Maybe you should go to Scarborough every weekend to reboot haha Lovely!

  14. Just wondering if you were planning another break anytime soon Gary, gets my backing if you do 😂😂.Quality pick…Michael who???

For those members using bfair/bfair sp i have found that backing half stake at current bfair price around 1pm and other half at sp works well long term as covering both bases . There is a tendency for selections to shorten sharply first thing and this therefore gives time for the market to even out over the morning/early pm as otger horses get backed. Certainly worked well today anyway 🥳🥳🥳

    • Thanks for that info Peter- I’ve been monitoring BSP during the new challenge and I think I got caught up in cognitive bias. I didn’t start from the off placing bets on BSP and it happened that the winners that I had later on shortened quite a bit, but in the grand scheme, the BSP yesterday would have made up the diff and more.

I am working on my mindset on the side, but this is a helpful observation and am going to go back to BSP for sure.

  15. Wales in August next…..thanks for the Bf heads up as well. Worth noting as i went back in later as well 😀

  16. Hi Gary
Tremendous start to the turf flat season….BOG 25/1 many thanks.
You will have to take regular breaks in future, must be the Scarborough sea air.
    Take care
    Ray
