Horse Racing Selections – 6th June 2020

On what would have been the Epsom Derby Day, we now find ourselves running the first classic, 2000 Guineas a couple of months late on the very same day.

Nonetheless it  is the handicaps where we will be formulating our plans for the near future and there are 3 @ Class 2’s and a C3.

Only two trackers are out from last years notes. Tim Easterby’s Copper Knight going in the (13.15) and Stuart Williams’ Alemaratalyoum in the (16.45).

The former, was noted on very first run last term when 4th in the Scottish Sprint Cup Handicap (4yo+, 5f 1y, Class 2) where he looked to be on the wrong side of the draw. He quickly followed up at York in a C2 in May and again won at the same track in a Listed in July, where we didn’t have a bet because of our preference for C3 – 6. Perhaps this season we will delve more into that grade as we were rareley out of the slots when we punted C2 – thoughts peeps?

He does like to race prominently and although his season petered out back end once he had got past 106, back down at 102 he does have definite EW possibilities with the stable having winners to date. However, he could well tee it up for Easterby’s other charge, Count D’Orsay who has the significant booking of James Doyle in the plate. Nevertheless, prominent racers do go well at HQ and Copper Knight could prove difficult to peg back. Although on the drift, around 14’s has possibilities for some small shrapnel interest and one we’ll note seriously when getting back ‘oop north’ 🙂

The second charge, Alemaratalyoum was one we had in our sights when with Iain Jardine and effective around 85-90 on going with some ease. It looks a tough ask today from this mark and one we’ll be following when the ground eases, along with is rating.

Looking back at yesterday, Jedd didn’t get any sort of improvement from Flavius Titus trailling in last again – he hasn’t beaten a runner home now in 3 races so clearly problems there. However, David O’Mearas’s Summerghand was runner up with a nice late run at a meeting where the front runners have prevailed to date and one we’ll pop into our tracker notes going forward for the season that members can access.

We’ve kept the powder dry so far this week and with no need to force the issue at this early stage, hopefully you can remain patient for a week or so?

Nevertheless, we have 3 days of Haydock and Ponty to look forward to where we may get our campaign under way 🙂
