Horse Racing Selections – 9th June 2023

A handful of cards on the flat to end the week.

Nonetheless, just a couple of 4 year old plus handicaps going with more than eight going to post.

Ahead of the weekend there’s a sole selection from Bath.

No real answer as to Sir Oliver folding tamely yesterday. Was well fancied on the day and may need to get back up to the 7f 🙁

  1. I was a bit surprised to see Chris-8 say ‘The money all comes 3 minutes before the off’. A lot of good money does come close to off time but since the advent of internet and exchanges the money starts moving the evening before the race. Bet365(meh) and Hills(mehish) put up prices around tea time the day before (earlier for big race ante post obviously). I will go back as i love to(80’s-90’s) when i used to get the ‘Post’ and there were boxes of bookies prices mainly on Saturday morning with odds available till 09;15 or in some cases 09:30 or even 10:00. I would then rush to town because four bookies were in spitting distance of each other (Hills, Corals,Ladbrokes and Betfred)and get the best price available on my fancy.
Back to today. I have spotted 16 over night movers. These include James Watt 3.40T 25/1 -10/1 Brasca 14-7/1 4.10T plus several others of interest. A lot of these movers will be bookies chaff(not real movers), mainly horses picked by a tipster or trainers bookies are a bit worried about. It is a real skill to identify the real movers and one i am not particularly good at but i do factor it into my selections. There will be horses that continue to move right up to the off and these are the ones i concentrate on especilally if they have moved from double figures into at least half that price. Not all win of course but they would be included in my dutch with other methods i use. The late money is still strong but nowhere near as strong as it was when the bookies used to price up at the course minutes before the off. I once remember working at Donny racecourse and being one of the first to chalk up a Derek Hayden Jones two year old. The rush was so strong they knocked me off my box. Now that was big money coming just before the off. Thank god for internet or are we better off??!!

    • I take you point onboard Ian, I looking this morning at todays selection and there was 870 matched, very little in the way of say 50 of us trying to take £15 would not see us matched.. obviously the price graph isn’t time senstive and I only just got back now to check, and I can see there is circa 9.5k matched (as I write this at the off).

I think I still stand by the money coming in very late, compared to 8:30 when the tip is posted on the exchange hah

  2. Missed the fact Merry Secret out at Thirsk. Any one looking for an ew nibble on 4 slots (16.40) 9/1

  3. Easterby beginning to roll 🙂

  4. He is Gary you are correct. Really annoyed with myself in the last at Thirsk. There was obviously a massive high draw bias over the sprint distances. I considered backing the four highest drawn in forecasts. I decided not to as i thought they might be slowly away and miss the edge. Of course two go in and the exacta pays £121 and the s.f pays over £80. Faint heart as they say.
