Monday Newsletter – 25th February

Plenty of racing to start the week with a couple of trackers going – Micky Hammond trained Knockamona dealt us a low blow when winning last week on ‘alien going’ and is back out quickly at Ayr (16.25). He’s obviously fit, but whether he is quick enough going back over timber following that chase success is subject to conjecture. He can race off the same weight and is on around 9/2 for a follow up.

We have our other tracker going at Uttoxeter and we’ll make that our members selection below and post Timeform for the Plumpton meeting.

For those on the £1k to £10k challenge it’s currently a 32% win/place strike rate…..our bank is now £682.34 and stakes are now £8.21 EW

2.00 Watch Sky Sports Racing In HD Mares’ Handicap Hurdle (4) 2½m114y

Timeform Top Rated:
113p 13. DOWHATUDODOBEST Phil Middleton Jamie Moore
112 3. POTTERS SAPPHIRE Amy Murphy Jack Quinlan
111 1. DING DING Sheena West Marc Goldstein

Analyst’s Verdict:
Dowhatudodobest caught the eye again at Leicester last time and can open her account having eased further in the weights. Mrs Miggins is feared most, with Versifier another to consider.

2.30 Peter Earl Memorial Novices’ Chase (4) 2m3f164y

Timeform Top Rated:
147 1. GRAASTEN Gary Moore Joshua Moore

Analyst’s Verdict:
Graasten won on his last 2 starts at Plumpton over hurdles and this looks a good chance for him to get his chasing career back on track. All his rivals are having their first go over fences and Mine’s A Pint could be the one for the forecast.

3.00 Book For Our Easter Festival Now Maiden Hurdle (4) 1m7f195y

Timeform Top Rated:
133p 9. THE FLYING SOFA Gary Moore Jamie Moore
127p 3. GREY DIAMOND Alan King Wayne Hutchinson
124p 6. REALLYRADICAL Chris Gordon Leighton Aspell

Analyst’s Verdict:
The Flying Sofa ran a blinder when edged out close home over C&D a fortnight ago and can go one better. Pentland Hills must demand plenty of respect starting out in this sphere for Nicky Henderson, while Grey Diamond has a bigger performance in him in this sphere if he can settle down.

3.30 R.A.B.I./Joan Collison Memorial Handicap Hurdle (3) 1m7f195y

Timeform Top Rated:
143p 2. BRANDON CASTLE Neil King Bryony Frost
142 5. DESIREMOI D’AUTHIE Chris Gordon Tom Cannon
141 1. DISTINGO Gary Moore Joshua Moore

Analyst’s Verdict:
Though he’s 0-11 in this sphere, Desiremoi d’Authie again left the strong impression that a breakthrough success is near when hitting the crossbar at Wincanton last month. A 3 lb rise looks fair and the 6-y-o is taken to inflict a first hurdles defeat on Brandon Castle, who has bagged a couple of C&D novice events and may do better still now handicapping. Arthington is also accorded respect.

4.05 Howden Sport And Equine Insurance Amateur Riders’ Handicap Chase (4) 3m1f152y

Timeform Top Rated:
126 4. CLONDAW BISTO Suzy Smith Mr Alex Ferguson (3)
125 7. TZAR DE L’ELFE Richard Rowe Miss Gina Andrews
124 3. ROBINROYALE Johnny Farrelly Mr Luca Morgan (7)

Analyst’s Verdict:
While Tzar de L’Elfe is anything but prolific, he arrives on the back of a solid effort at Lingfield where he found only Parlour Maid (winner again since) too strong. If able to reproduce that form, Richard Rowe’s charge may well belatedly open his chase account back up in trip here. Clondaw Bisto is feared but his profile is rather patchy and the in-form Midnight Bliss rates a bigger threat.

4.40 Strong Flavours Catering Handicap Hurdle (5) 3m217y

Timeform Top Rated:
111 6. BIG PICTURE Johnny Farrelly David Noonan
109 3. BEN ARTHUR Kim Bailey Mikey Hamill (3)
107 1. RUBY YEATS Gary Moore Jamie Moore

Analyst’s Verdict:
Big Picture posted a career best when resuming winning ways at Ffos Las in December and still looks fairly treated despite a 6 lb higher mark here. He can score again. Ruby Yeats and No Trumps are feared most.

5.10 Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Mares’ Standard Open National Hunt Flat (5) 2m1f164y

Timeform Top Rated:
113 2. EARLY MORNING RAIN Jamie Snowden Sam Twiston-Davies
112 5. POGO I AM Harry Fry Kieron Edgar (3)
94 6. ROARING FURY Amy Murphy Jack Quinlan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Point winner Marilyn Monroe is bred to be very useful and makes obvious appeal for a yard which does so well in these events. There was very little between Pogo I Am and Early Morning Rain when they clashed at Ludlow before Christmas (latter has finished second at Taunton since) and they are likely to give Anthony Honeyball’s mare most to think about.
