With no selections yesterday it’s straight into a new week with meets at Ponty, Windsor & Hamilton on the turf.

At Windsor (19.30), previous winner Ice Age gets back out following a lack lustre Wokingham – this is an obvious ‘easier’ task and the previous C&D winner rates one for the lumpers in a competitive 6 runner where Charles Bishop will have competition for the lead from Roger Varian’s Double Up.

At Ponty, Julie Camacho gets Brockholes back out quickly (15.00) – she finished 5th behind our Saturday winner, Dark Intention and the drop to Ponty’s stiff 6f should suit – without a win in C3 but has knocked on the door and a definite top of the surface performer, she’s been bang on this term with a couple of wins and has gone up 8 in the ratings and on at a slightly better than ‘wipes yer face’ EW price best 11/2.

2.00 Alan Hogg – A Lifetime In Racing Handicap (5) 6f

Timeform Top Rated:
86 1. GOLD HUNTER Adrian Wintle Finley Marsh (5)
85 5. ROUND THE ISLAND Richard Whitaker Lewis Edmunds (3)
83 3. THE AMBER FORT Michael Herrington Phil Dennis (3)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Having shaped well behind Highly Sprung and The Amber Fort here 3 weeks ago, Round The Island landed a gamble over C&D last time and a penalty ought not to prevent a very bold follow-up bid.

2.30 British Stallion Studs EBF Spindrifter Conditions Stakes (2) 6f

Timeform Top Rated:
112 1. BLOWN BY WIND Mark Johnston Franny Norton
106 3. WEDDING DATE Richard Hannon Silvestre De Sousa
70 2. ROLL UP ROLL UP Tony Coyle Shane Gray

Analyst’s Verdict:
Blown By Wind performed with real credit in the Coventry given he raced in the disadvantaged group and this looks an ideal chance for him to record victory number 3. Unless Breeze-Up purchase Loch Ness Monster is well-above average, the selection will have most to fear from Wedding Date.

3.00 ebfstallions.com Fillies’ Handicap (3) 6f

Timeform Top Rated:
98 2. BAMBINO LOLA Adam West John Fahy
97 3. BROCKHOLES Julie Camacho Callum Rodriguez (3)
97 5. MAUREB Tony Coyle Shane Gray

Analyst’s Verdict:
Rebel Assault hasn’t really threatened in handicaps this year, but she eases in grade as a result and has landed the plum stall back at 6f, so a bold bid would come as no surprise. Bambino Lola is feared following an excellent effort at York, with Brockholes another to note if turned out quickly.

3.30 Wayne Conway Memorial Handicap (5) 1½m5y

Timeform Top Rated:
84p 1. CONSTRUCT Ralph Beckett Silvestre De Sousa
83 2. FRENCH RESISTANCE Jedd O’Keeffe Daniel Tudhope
81+ 3. CONTREBASSE Tim Easterby David Allan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Construct is a rangy colt with the potential to rate quite a bit higher this season, and this appears to be a handicap that is there for the taking. The Carlisle contest French Resistance won last time hasn’t worked out, but he may have more to offer over this longer trip.

4.00 16th Wilfred Underwood Memorial Classified Stakes (5) 6f

Timeform Top Rated:
95p 4. I KNOW HOW Julie Camacho Paul Mulrennan
94 5. WALK ON WALTER David Simcock Stevie Donohoe
93 2. ENZO’S LAD K. R. Burke Franny Norton

Analyst’s Verdict:
A tightly-knit minor race on the figures, but I Know How and Battle Commence are probably the pair open to the most improvement. Both will doubtless be trying 7f sooner rather than later, but the former is just preferred.

4.30 Gallop Racing Handicap (4) 1m6y

Timeform Top Rated:
95 5. TRINITY STAR Karen McLintock Callum Rodriguez (3)
90 2. STORM AHEAD Tim Easterby David Allan
88 1. LAMLOOM David O’Meara Daniel Tudhope

Analyst’s Verdict:
Trinity Star was clear of the rest when coming up just short in a C&D handicap 9 days ago and connections have unsurprisingly turned him out before the assessor can react to that run. He should take some stopping, with Lamloom and Intense Style heading the opposition.

5.00 Johnny Huckle Is Nearly 100 Celebration Handicap (Lady Amateur Riders) (5) 1¼m5y

Timeform Top Rated:
103 1. X RATED Mark Johnston Miss Emma Bedford (5)
102 6. BROMANCE Peter Niven Miss Catherine Walton
101 7. CARIBBEAN SPRING George Margarson Miss Rosie Margarson (7)

Analyst’s Verdict:
X Rated is on a lengthy losing run, but several place efforts this term read pretty well in the context of this race, and this is a slight drop in class. Caribbean Spring is a definite threat if carrying on the good work on turf, while Diamonds A Dancing and Quoteline Direct have both won races for their respective riders.
