Monday Newsletter – 31st December 2018

Well that was a ‘hero to zero moment’ as we backed against Rebecca Menzies trained Tomkevi with our selection 🙁 There was no info forthcoming on that one being able to step up in class and little stable confidence with a massive drift out to 20’s. FFS that was a similar moment to the ‘Dalgleish Crazy Tornado moment’ we had on the flat earlier this year……however we recovered from that and hopefully we can begin to build some significant profits during 2019.

At least there was little damage with our 2nd selection Misty Bloom getting home in the places…..argghhh!!!!

Straight into New Years Eve and there’s one out who was subject to a massive gamble earlier this month after we posted early and was withdrawn late on the morning – he’s back out again and will be a members selection.

There’s some decent field sizes and we’re having a look at three today on the last day of 2018…….enjoy your evening tonight and we’ll see you in 2019!!!!!

For those on the £1k to £10k challenge….we’ve now over a 37% win/place strike rate …..our bank is now £1100.02 and current stakes are now £13.75 EW

12.35 Ever So Sensible Restaurants Handicap Hurdle (5) 1m7f168y

Timeform Top Rated:
113 10. FLANAGANS FIELD Bernard Llewellyn Richard Johnson
112 15. RIGHT ROYALS DAY John Needham Jamie Moore
108 12. TARA WELL Robin Dickin Miss Tabitha Worsley (7)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Delface stepped up on his comeback run and likely would have benefited from a stronger gallop when third over further here 10 days ago. Now 2 lb lower, he gets the nod to come out on top. Blue April, Blue Skimmer and Flanagans Field are a trio of others to consider in a very tricky opener.

1.05 Sun Racing Maiden Hurdle (Qualifier) (4) 2m7f70y

Timeform Top Rated:
131p 6. HALLOWEEN HARRY Philip Hobbs Richard Johnson
130p 1. ARDLETHEN Dan Skelton Harry Skelton
126p 8. OSCAR CEREMONY Charlie Mann Noel Fehily

Analyst’s Verdict:
It was a heavy last-flight fall that Ardlethen took on hurdles debut at Bangor but, if none the worse for that, this winning pointer could be the answer to a maiden hurdle that is likely to throw up several future winners. Halloween Harry, who was also successful between the flags, certainly shaped as though there are races in him when third at Haydock and is next best ahead of Oscar Ceremony.

1.40 Elite Reception Handicap Chase (4) 3m2y

Timeform Top Rated:
117§ 3. FIGHT COMMANDER Olly Murphy Richard Johnson
115 1. THE OGLE GOGLE MAN Charlie Mann Noel Fehily
113 8. HANSUPFORDETROIT Bernard Llewellyn Sean Houlihan (3)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Gonnabegood was pulled up on sole previous start over fences but is bred for this game and makes plenty of appeal based on his recent improved hurdles form. Conditions are in his favour and the 7-y-o is marginally preferred to The Ogle Gogle Man, who deservedly opened his account in this sphere at Fontwell and should continue to give a good account. Fight Commander also enters calculations.

2.10 Moorland Racing Handicap Hurdle (3) 2m3f207y

Timeform Top Rated:
134 4. SIZING CUSIMANO Colin Tizzard Harry Cobden
132 10. BURROWS PARK Venetia Williams Miss Lucy Turner (7)
131 3. ASYLO Dr Richard Newland Sam Twiston-Davies

Analyst’s Verdict:
Eur Gone West has shown promise in both starts in this sphere and, with improvement anticipated now faced with a stiffer test and moving into handicap company, he earns the vote. It was a decent handicap that Sizing Cusimano landed here last time and he is feared most, despite dropping back in trip, while recent Ludlow winner Burrows Park is another key player.

2.45 Robert Baskerville 2018-2019 Chase (Novices’ Limited Handicap) (3) 2½m

Timeform Top Rated:
144 2. AINTREE MY DREAM Dan Skelton Harry Skelton
140p 4. ALL CURRENCIES Gary Moore Joshua Moore
128p 1. DR DES Henry Oliver James Davies

Analyst’s Verdict:
The Bottom Bar had a rather unfortunate experience on his chase debut at Sandown recently, falling having been hit by a loose horse early on. He’s well worth another chance and earns the vote to come out on top. Aintree My Dream and Dr Des are just 2 others to consider.

3.15 Uttoxeter & Cheadle Voice Handicap Hurdle (5) 2m7f70y

Timeform Top Rated:
113 3. DIVA DU MAQUIS Noel Williams Harry Teal (5)
112 5. COSTANTE VIA Nigel Twiston-Davies Sam Twiston-Davies
111 9. TURBOTIM Michael Scudamore Ben Poste

Analyst’s Verdict:
Little to separate Costante Via and Diva du Maquis here earlier this month, with Nigel Twiston Davies’ charge narrowly taken to confirm the form and open her account. Some Operator is a likely improver now venturing into handicaps and also enters the reckoning.

3.45 ‘Thank You To Major Charlie Moore’ EBF Mares’ Maiden Open National Hunt Flat (Qualifier) (5) 1m7f168y

Timeform Top Rated:
111 8. NORTHERN PRINCESS Lucy Wadham Maxime Tissier (5)
110 5. LUGG RIVER Tom Symonds James Davies
109 3. FARNE Neil King Jack Quinlan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Those with experience don’t set an exacting standard so it could pay to take a chance on A Perfect Gift, who wouldn’t need to be anything out of the ordinary to make a winning start for her excellent young trainer. Farne, Northern Princess and Lugg River are all closely matched on form and head the opposition.
