Monday – 6th August 2018

Yesterday’s members selection, Berlusca was just one outside the places, finishing 4th at Chester advised at 16’s and won by the Tom Dascombe favourite. Today there’s just one meet on the afternoon at Ripon and a couple of evening meetings with a pro-am ladies card at Carlisle and a regular Windsor Monday nighter.

The first race of the day (14.30) sees Sienna Says go in a seller at Ripon – despite being a long term maiden we’d noted he running well both here and at Thirsk from the wrong side of the draw. She has plenty of early pace and it would be no surprise to see SDS do a pillar to post and get her in the winners enclosure….but of no EW value to us and more for you lumpers likely to go off round 5/2.

Indeed SDS could hve another good chance on our previous members winner, Sheepscar Lad who goes in the (15.30) – again it’s under our thresholds and aside from those two there’s nothing of value for us.

At Windsor Jason Hart and John Quinn have very chance with Shaheen in the (17.30) but at just wipes yer face prices we’ll pass over on that and members have a better priced selection below in another race.

For those on the £1k to £10k challenge….our bank has NOW grown by over 170% to nearly £3k with an ROI of over 40%….current stakes are now £33.44 EW.

2.00 Longines Irish Champions Weekend EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes (4) 6f

Timeform Top Rated
91 4. EVIE SPEED Jedd O’Keeffe Jack Garritty
87p 1. DAME GLADYS Kevin Ryan Kevin Stott
77p 9. ROYAL DESTINY Richard Fahey Paul Hanagan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Evie Speed’s form stacks up and she has strong claims returning from a short break. Royal Destiny is a big player after an eye-catching debut at Beverley. Penalised Nottingham-winner Dame Gladys should go well up in trip if ready to go after 3 months off.

2.30 Follow @riponraces On Twitter Selling Handicap (6) 5f

Timeform Top Rated
76 4. SIENNA SAYS Roger Fell Silvestre De Sousa
75 6. LAYDEE VICTORIA Ollie Pears Andrew Mullen
74 1. LIFE FOR RENT Tim Easterby David Allan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Life For Rent was marooned away from the main action at Thirsk last time and is likely still in good form. His sole previous success came over C&D and he’s selected to come good again in first-time blinkers, Sienna Says is a longstanding maiden but she showed she can be competitive off this mark last time and has Silvestre De Sousa taking over in the saddle. Tidal Surge is also shortlisted.

3.00 Racegoers Club 50th Anniversary Handicap (4) 1m1f170y

Timeform Top Rated
94 2. MIKMAK Tim Easterby David Allan
93 6. TIGHT LINES Mark Johnston Joe Fanning
92 8. WINDSOR CROSS Richard Fahey Paul Hanagan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Racemaker’s form has taken off since the blinkers have been applied and he might be up to defying the handicapper again. Armandihan and Daawy are both tricky to win with but arrive on the back of decent course efforts, while Mikmak will be a major player if turned out again after his ready win in a competitive race at Thirsk on Saturday.

3.30 Armstrong Memorial Handicap (3) 6f

Timeform Top Rated
108 3. SHEEPSCAR LAD Nigel Tinkler Silvestre De Sousa
107 2. NAMEITWHATYOULIKE Bryan Smart Graham Lee
105 5. BIG LES Karen McLintock Connor Beasley

Analyst’s Verdict:
Sheepscar Lad went close off this mark at Pontefract recently and can go one better with Silvestre De Sousa taking over in the saddle. Pipers Note enhanced his excellent course record last time and looks sure to go well again, while sole 3-y-o Big Les has largely gone the right way and is also respected on his return from a short break.

4.00 Visit attheraces.com Handicap (4) 5f

Timeform Top Rated
102 3. HARROGATE James Bethell Jim Crowley
100 4. ANGELS Tim Easterby Daniel Tudhope
99 2. SEEN THE LYTE Nigel Tinkler Lewis Edmunds (3)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Dropping back to the bare 5f should suit Harrogate, who lost little caste in defeat at York last time and a reproduction of that would probably suffice here. Despite her failure to make much of an impact since switched to handicaps, Angels is on a good mark judged on her form earlier in the season and she is next best ahead of recent Doncaster winner Seen The Lyte.

4.30 ROA/Racing Post Owners’ Jackpot Handicap (5) 1½m10y

Timeform Top Rated
85 4. EYECATCHER Simon Crisford Silvestre De Sousa
83 1. CHANT Ann Duffield Paul Hanagan
82+ 3. MAULESDEN MAY Keith Dalgleish Graham Lee

Analyst’s Verdict:
It could be worth siding with Poetic Steps, who hasn’t been at her best of late but may well be allowed her own way out in front here. If that proves to be the case, the Mark Johnston-trained filly could take some pegging back off this mark. She may have most to fear from Eyecatcher, though Chant also merits respect and King’s Coinage is one to keep an eye on.

5.00 Visit ripon-races.co.uk Novice Stakes (5) 1½m10y

Timeform Top Rated
93p 5. VOLCANIC SKY Saeed bin Suroor Kevin Stott
90p 2. AL KHERB Roger Charlton Silvestre De Sousa
76 3. POINT OF HONOUR Ruth Carr James Sullivan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Al Kherb was pretty much friendless in the betting ahead of his Newbury debut but it was a different story in the race itself. Indeed, the son of Al Kazeem displayed a willing attitude to get the better of another promising newcomer in that minor event and, with improvement likely now faced with a stiffer test, he is marginally preferred to Volcanic Sky and likely-looking type Tajdeed.
