Saturday – 20th October 2018

British Champions Day at Ascot on Saturday and there’s Timeform for the meeting below – however, we will be concentrating on events north at Catterick.

Just touching on Ascot, obviously there’s a few who have progressed into C2 and above since we started backing the. In the (14.00) The Tin Man & Brando who long term members will remember were ones’ who were in our ‘2016 flat to follow’ list. The former is a previous winner of this race and will surely give his running again though may get caught out by the heavier ground and Kevin Ryan’s charge is more appealing at EW odds. The Balmoral Handicap (16.30) has one we backed early season, Kynren going – he’s been consistent to a tee without landing a real biggie and has become tight on odds for EW players and Jamie Osborne’s Hathal looks real value after a light campaign and back in a handicap. 3rd in a listed LTO and ran well in group races last year  – looks real EW value at around 20’s.

On a quiet day we have just a sole selection for members from Catterick below.

We’re now at nearly £3,500 for those on the £1k to £10k challenge….our bank has NOW grown by nearly 250% with an ROI of over 25%….current stakes are now £43.60 EW

Today’s Selections

Catterick 16.40

Redrosezorro won well for us the other week and if getting the extra furlong will certainly be in the mix from a good draw and on a front runners course……Jason Hart may come back to bite us on the bum with the improving 3yo, Amplification but we’re on another 3yo who still looks to have a bit to offer.

WEELLAN ran well here two races back from a poor draw and prior had won well twice at Ripon on another front runner’s course set up similar to this. He’s 2 below his highest winning mark and David O’Meara’s charge should run his race again with a high draw that seems favourable here from trap 10. David Nolan is up top and there’s a best priced 10/1 across the board.

1.25 QIPCO British Champions Long Distance Cup (Group 2) (1) 1m7f209y

Timeform Top Rated:
134 3. STRADIVARIUS John Gosden Frankie Dettori
127 6. FLAG OF HONOUR Aidan O’Brien Ryan Moore
125 2. MOUNT MORIAH Ralph Beckett Non Runner

Analyst’s Verdict:
Stradivarius can cap off a tremendous 2018 with a fifth consecutive win. He made short work of his rivals again in the Lonsdale Cup at York and could be the one to beat in the staying division for years to come. Sir Erec was mightily impressive when winning at Limerick and is part of a strong challenge from Ballydoyle along with Irish Leger winner Flag of Honour.

2.00 QIPCO British Champions Sprint Stakes (Group 1) (1) 6f

Timeform Top Rated:
143 5. HARRY ANGEL Clive Cox Adam Kirby
137 12. THE TIN MAN James Fanshawe Oisin Murphy
135 11. TASLEET William Haggas Jim Crowley

Analyst’s Verdict:
The Tin Man looked as good as ever when winning the Haydock Sprint Cup and could be worth siding with to follow up at a track where he goes so well. Last year’s one-two Librisa Breeze and Tasleet are respected, while it would also be silly to ignore Harry Angel.

2.40 QIPCO British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes (Group 1) (1) 1m3f211y

Timeform Top Rated:
130p 8. LAH TI DAR John Gosden Frankie Dettori
128 1. CORONET John Gosden Olivier Peslier
128 3. HYDRANGEA Aidan O’Brien Donnacha O’Brien

Analyst’s Verdict:
Lah Ti Dar doesn’t have anything like Kew Gardens to live with this time, so she has standout claims of taking this first Group 1 to top off what’s been an unbelievable year for her family and owners. The French challenger Kitesurf looks the obvious main danger while Pilaster still has the potential to prove herself a top-notch filly.

3.15 Queen Elizabeth Ii Stakes (Sponsored By QIPCO) (Group 1) (1) 1m

Timeform Top Rated:
139 11. ROARING LION John Gosden Oisin Murphy
135 7. RECOLETOS C. Laffon-Parias Olivier Peslier
134 5. LIGHTNING SPEAR David Simcock Andrea Atzeni

Analyst’s Verdict:
Recoletos had excuses in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot and confirmed himself a Group 1 miler when winning the Prix du Moulin at Longchamp last month. He shades the vote over Roaring Lion, who is top-class over 10f but faces a different test here. Addeybb and Lord Glitters complete the shortlist.

3.50 QIPCO Champion Stakes (Group 1) (1) 1m1f212y

Timeform Top Rated:
145 2. CRACKSMAN John Gosden Frankie Dettori
141 3. CRYSTAL OCEAN Sir Michael Stoute William Buick
133 1. CAPRI Aidan O’Brien Ryan Moore

Analyst’s Verdict:
Cracksman lit up this meeting when a 7-length winner 12 months ago, and though he hasn’t matched that level so far this season, blinkers may help him focus and travel with a bit more verve. The ground has come right and he can sign off his career in the perfect fashion, with Capri a sporting choice to uphold 2017 St Leger form with Crystal Ocean and fill the forecast spot.

4.30 Balmoral Handicap (Sponsored By QIPCO) (2) 1m

Timeform Top Rated:
127 6. MITCHUM SWAGGER Ralph Beckett Harry Bentley
126 18. KYNREN David Barron William Buick
126 5. SHARJA BRIDGE Roger Varian Andrea Atzeni

Analyst’s Verdict:
Safe Voyage has improved another chunk this term, defying a hefty rise on the back of his facile reappearance success in determined style at Galway in August. With a good record fresh to call upon, he is fancied to defy another rise in the weights back at 1m. Kynren, returned to a soft surface, and Raising Sand are 2 likely threats though, whilst Hathal may represent a spot of each-way value.

Today’s Bets……..

Good luck if you’re going with our each-way selection today….
