We’ve been bemoaning the lack of runners recently in our search for some value selections at odds of north of 10/1….we managed a place about Fieldsman last night at HQ with 12’s  in what was a 10 + runner race. However, Saturday disappoints again with Haydock & Ripon just one race north of a 10 runner, zero at Newbury, Lingfield and HQ……we occasionally dip into C2 but the race at Newbury is a 2 miler and not on our radar.

The 17.15 at Ripon has just gone a 7 runner knocking another out of the equation – that means we have just one out in the members section and we’ll look at the Sunday card at Redcar to supplement the weekend selections as there’s a couple of divisions of a class 6 tomorrow, so will post around 10.00am in the morning

The speedmeisters views come from Newbury today.

For those on the £1k to £10k challenge, it’s been 3 months of incremental profits…….our bank has grown by over 75% with an ROI of over 20%….current stakes are now £22.48 EW

1.50 bet365 Stakes (Steventon) (Listed) (1) 1¼m

Timeform Top Rated:
128 3. DESERT ENCOUNTER David Simcock Andrea Atzeni
127 5. EMOTIONLESS Charlie Appleby William Buick
124 6. SPARK PLUG Brian Meehan Jim Crowley

Analyst’s Verdict:
While Emotionless hasn’t gone on to scale the heights anticipated following his most promising 2-y-o campaign, he proved that plenty of ability remains intact when chasing Benbatl home at Meydan in January (first run since being gelded). The 5-y-o may still prove to be a cut above this grade and gets the nod ahead of Desert Encounter and Spark Plug.

2.25 JLT Cup (Handicap) (2) 2m110y

Timeform Top Rated:
121 10. STRATUM W. P. Mullins Robert Winston
120 6. SIR CHAUVELIN Jim Goldie George Downing
120 7. QULOOB Owen Burrows Jim Crowley

Analyst’s Verdict:
The vote goes to Quloob, who did nothing but progress in 2017 and his Newmarket reappearance offered hope that this new trip will be within his range, and that there could be even better to come from him this year. Stratum did well to finish as close as he did in the Ascot Stakes and is a live danger, while Coeur De Lion and Cleonte also performed well in that race and are others to consider.

3.00 bet365 Hackwood Stakes (Group 3) (1)

Timeform Top Rated:
126 4. PROJECTION Roger Charlton Harry Bentley
125 1. BACCHUS Brian Meehan Frankie Dettori
123 2. DREAM OF DREAMS Sir Michael Stoute Andrea Atzeni

Analyst’s Verdict:
Equilateral was a shade disappointing in the Commonwealth Cup but the memory of his reappearance demolition job at Doncaster remains fresh in the mind. He looked every inch a group-class sprinter that day and can confirm that impression by striking here. Projection’s form is just about the best on offer and he is feared most ahead of Invincible Army and Wokingham hero Bacchus.

3.35 Weatherbys Super Sprint Stakes (2) 5f34y

Timeform Top Rated:
116p 17. RED BALLOONS Richard Fahey Paul Hanagan
115 16. KINKS Mick Channon Joe Fanning
109 6. TIN HAT Eve Johnson Houghton Edward Greatrex

Analyst’s Verdict:
Red Balloons ticks all the right boxes as an improving Richard Fahey-trained runner with a draw in the middle, and she can give her yard a fourth winner in 6 years in this valuable sprint. Little Kim won a Group 3 in France last time and looks a big player despite top-weight. Kinks is another of the class acts and is considered also with Tin Hat.

4.10 bet365 Novice Stakes (4) 6f

Timeform Top Rated:
94p 7. WISE COUNSEL Clive Cox Adam Kirby
79 5. INDIAN SOUNDS Mark Johnston Joe Fanning

Analyst’s Verdict:
Wise Counsel shaped well in a novice event at this course that’s working out incredibly well and, with the benefit of experience over his main dangers, he can become the latest next-time-out winner to come from that race. Newcomers Chatham House and Conspiritor both have the pedigrees to prove above-average and are worth keeping an eye on.

4.45 EBF Breeders’ Series Fillies’ Handicap (2) 1m

Timeform Top Rated:
106p 9. MELODIES Ed Dunlop Jim Crowley
105p 8. CEILIDHS DREAM Ralph Beckett Harry Bentley
104 7. HOMEOPATHIC Sir Michael Stoute Andrea Atzeni

Analyst’s Verdict:
Homeopathic took a while to hit full stride before forging clear at Newmarket last month, so it’s to be expected that she’ll benefit from this step up in trip. She is fancied to go in again before maybe tackling a higher grade, at the expense of another pair of interesting 3-y-os in Melodies and Ceilidhs Dream.

5.20 Grundon Recycling Handicap (2) 7f

Timeform Top Rated:
125 4. MEDAHIM Richard Hannon Pat Dobbs
121 3. AMAZOUR Ismail Mohammed Andrea Atzeni
120 5. LAKE VOLTA Mark Johnston Joe Fanning

Analyst’s Verdict:
Medahim failed to make an impact at Royal Ascot but his sights are lowered now, and he’s just 2 lb higher compared to when landing a stronger handicap than this at Newmarket last season. Amazour is arguably a more potent force on the AW but he is respected nonetheless and Lake Volta will be dangerous if allowed his own way out in front.
