Not quite ‘the place on Earth, but at least Patrick gave EW backing members some decent return coming in at 14/1 on a wet night for Belinda’s party night at Ponty last night !!!

It’s the Irish 2000 Guineas from the Curragh today with the speedmeisters views below on that meet – we’re looking at the lesser meets to ‘eek’ out some value returns…….tongue in cheek that…Temple Stakes at Haydock…..Tapster at Goodwood and the Al Basti Bronte Cup at York are all C1 races on what promises to be a cracking BH weekend of racing…….we may even venture up to Cartmel on Monday if the weather holds 🙂

At Haydock, local handler Eric Alston has Maid In India out again (17.10) – we mentioned her prior to her last win and she’s out again at around 3’s for you lumpers – there’s a lot expected of this one this season.

1.50 Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden 6f

Timeform Top Rated
98p 10. ROMME G. M. Lyons C. T. Keane
93p 9. LETHAL PROMISE W. McCreery William James Lee
86p 2. CUBAN SURFER J. S. Bolger K. J. Manning

Analyst’s Verdict:
Just Wonderful is the mount of Ryan Moore from the Aidan O’Brien trio and gets the nod to make a successful start to her career. Romme and Lethal Promise showed plenty of promise when runner-up on their respective debuts and could be the pair to give the selection most to do, although the market is likely to provide more clues in a race containing a few interesting newcomers.

2.25 FBD Hotels And Resorts Handicap 6f

Timeform Top Rated
115+ 12. RATTLING JEWEL Joseph Patrick O’Brien A. C. Persse (10)
114 11. PATUANO W. McCreery L. F. Roche
114 14. FIT FOR FUNCTION Joseph G. Murphy N. G. McCullagh

Analyst’s Verdict:
Rattling Jewel couldn’t quite peg back the reopposing Blairmayne over 5f at Naas last time but it could be a different story over 6f and this 6-y-o can strike at the second time of asking for new trainer Joseph O’Brien. Arcanears is open to progress on the back of his C&D maiden win and also makes the shortlist along with Jim Bolger’s Zorion.

3.00 Cold Move Irish European Breeders Fund Marble Hill Stakes (Listed) 6f

Timeform Top Rated
106p 9. FAIRYLAND Aidan O’Brien Seamie Heffernan
105p 6. VAN BEETHOVEN Aidan O’Brien Ryan Moore
101p 1. EVASIVE POWER M. D. O’Callaghan Declan McDonogh

Analyst’s Verdict:
Aidan O’Brien typically holds a strong hand with Van Beethoven, Fairyland and Land Force, and it looks significant that Ryan Moore has chosen to ride Van Beethoven.

3.35 Weatherbys Ireland Greenlands Stakes (Group 2) 6f

Timeform Top Rated
135 9. TASLEET William Haggas Jim Crowley
134 3. BRANDO Kevin Ryan Tom Eaves
132 1. MERCHANT NAVY Aidan O’Brien Ryan Moore

Analyst’s Verdict:
Tasleet kept the highest company after winning a Group 2 at York last term, runner-up in the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot, Haydock Sprint Cup and Champions Sprint, and can make a winning return back down in class. Brando has race fitness on his side and rates a big threat, while Merchant Navy was a Group 1 winner in Australia and is a fascinating contender starting out for Aidan O’Brien.

4.10 Tattersalls Irish 2000 Guineas (Group 1) 1m

Timeform Top Rated
135 2. GUSTAV KLIMT Aidan O’Brien Donnacha O’Brien
134p 1. ELARQAM Mark Johnston Jim Crowley
134 9. U S NAVY FLAG Aidan O’Brien Ryan Moore

Analyst’s Verdict:
Elarqam ran a cracking race in the Guineas at Newmarket despite still looking rough around the edges and can take the first Irish Classic of 2018 for Britain. Aidan O’Brien seeks a twelfth win and Gustav Klimt looks the pick of his quartet. Zihba has reportedly been purchased by Al Shaqab Racing after his impressive display at Leopardstown and won’t give up his unbeaten record easily.

4.45 Lanwades Stud Stakes (Group 2) 1m

Timeform Top Rated
134 1. HYDRANGEA Aidan O’Brien Ryan Moore
124p 2. GOLDRUSH J. S. Bolger K. J. Manning
122 5. OPAL TIARA Mick Channon R. P. Whelan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Hydrangea sets a clear standard so should prove hard to beat. Goldrush achieved a lot in a short space of time last year, and could be the one to follow the selection home.

5.20 Curragh “Where Champions Are Made” Spring Fillies Handicap 1m

Timeform Top Rated
108 11. HOUSE CALL Mrs J. Harrington S. P. Davis (7)
106 7. WISDOM MIND Joseph Patrick O’Brien Donnacha O’Brien
104 5. DIANTHUS Richard John O’Brien C. D. Hayes

Analyst’s Verdict:
House Call ran another fine race when second at Killarney recently and could be ahead of her mark now making her handicap debut. Terzetto and Wisdom Mind are a couple of others to consider in a tricky contest.

5.55 Curragh “Where Champions Are Made” Handicap 1m

Timeform Top Rated
104 3. BOND STREET Aidan O’Brien Ryan Moore
102 9. DREAM OF WORDS J. S. Bolger K. J. Manning
101p 8. ROCK SOUND D. K. Weld Declan McDonogh

Analyst’s Verdict:
It may pay to side with Bond Street, who appeals as being on a handy mark judged on his exploits this spring, and who has the services of Ryan Moore to aid his cause. This is a good looking race of its type though, with Rock Sound and Caffe Macchiato just 2 potential dangers.

Check these guys out if you haven't already heard of them!

We think you should check out the service from the guys from Cleeve – they target higher end c2+ than ourselves and have got off to a good start this season. Have a look around their site linked below with a past results visible. Our selections shouldn’t clash due to the nature of races we tend to get involved with and should be a nice complimentary and personal service from Nick & the guys to run alongside our own this summer.
