1.40 Terry Frame Joiners Novices’ Hurdle (4) 2m51y

Timeform Top Rated
132p 6. OLEG Paul Nicholls Harry Cobden
131p 5. POGUE Donald McCain Brian Hughes
119 4. NOT THE CHABLIS N. W. Alexander Lucy Alexander

Analyst’s Verdict:
Probably a match between Oleg and Pogue, with the 4-y-o taken to make a winning start for Paul Nicholls.

2.15 Cyril Alexander Memorial Chase (Novices’ Limited Handicap) (3) 2m1f14y

Timeform Top Rated
149p 3. TONTO’S SPIRIT Dianne Sayer Conor O’Farrell
148 1. EL TERREMOTO Nigel Twiston-Davies Daryl Jacob
146 5. ALIZEE DE JANEIRO Lucinda Russell Stephen Mulqueen (3)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Tonto’s Spirit made an encouraging start over fences when second at Ayr 6 weeks ago and seems sure to improve in this sphere. He can win this at the main expense of El Terremoto.

2.45 Belhaven Brewery Premier Chase (Listed) (1) 2m7f96y

Timeform Top Rated
178 1. BLACK CORTON Paul Nicholls Bryony Frost
176 5. ONE FOR ARTHUR Lucinda Russell Derek Fox
166 4. CAPTAIN REDBEARD Stuart Coltherd Sam Coltherd

Analyst’s Verdict:
An excellent opportunity for the tough and reliable Black Corton to open his account for the season. Captain Redbeard can follow him home with doubts surrounding the 2017 Grand National winner One For Arthur for now.

3.15 Edinburgh Gin Premier Kelso Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 2) (1) 2¼m25y

Timeform Top Rated
159p 2. GETAWAY TRUMP Paul Nicholls Harry Cobden
156p 6. WINDSOR AVENUE Brian Ellison Brian Hughes
155 4. ROUGE VIF Harry Whittington Gavin Sheehan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Getaway Trump is very much heading in the right direction and he can emulate Le Prezien who landed this Grade 2 prize for Paul Nicholls in 2016. Windsor Avenue looks capable of making his mark at this higher level and can provide the main threat ahead of Rouge Vif.

3.55 Alan Clydesdale Memorial Chase (Novices’ Limited Handicap) (3) 2m7f96y

Timeform Top Rated
139 3. WESTERN RULES Nicky Richards Danny McMenamin (7)
138 1. KNOCKROBIN Donald McCain Brian Hughes
132 4. CLAUD AND GOLDIE Sandy Forster Richie McLernon

Analyst’s Verdict:
Western Rules shaped like one ahead of his mark prior to completing a simple task back in novice company last time, so he’s expected to follow up in a race that won’t take much winning, acknowledging Knockrobin and Claud And Goldie could still have improvement in them as chasers.

4.30 Johnston Smillie Handicap Chase (4) 2m5f133y

Timeform Top Rated
118 1. ORIONINVERNESS Lucinda Russell Stephen Mulqueen (3)
117§ 4. CHARLIE SNOW ANGEL Sandy Forster Jamie Hamilton
114 2. FLY RORY FLY N. W. Alexander Lucy Alexander

Analyst’s Verdict:
Orioninverness rather stands out in this line up and he is fancied to come out on top. Fly Rory Fly has yet to convince for present connections, though his mark is easing and he may well be the one for the forecast.

5.05 Kelsae Yorkie Handicap Hurdle (3) 2¾m151y

Timeform Top Rated
138 2. SEEMORELIGHTS Sandy Thomson Rachael McDonald (5)
137 4. JET MASTER N. W. Alexander Lucy Alexander
135 1. AYE RIGHT Harriet Graham Callum Bewley

Analyst’s Verdict:
There were plenty of positives to be taken from Seemorelights comeback in December and he gets the nod to build on that returning to the scene of his novice win. Aye Right is having a very productive season and seems sure to give another good account.
