Today’s Selections

Redcar 16.35

Give It Some Teddy has rewarded us this term but looks slightly better at an extended 8f and with this looking a rather weak looking C2, Les Eyre’s DAWAALEEB is a big strong Invincible Spirit horse that came out of Charlie Hills yard……..we mentioned him right at the start of the campaign and it’s been a frustration we haven’t been able to get a bet at a price about him this term. In theory he holds the former on a run we marked right at the beginning of the season at Ponty and we’ve take the best 8/1 with bet365.

Redcar 16.35 – Dawaaleeb

Redcar 17.40

We’ve backed Ghayyar this term but doesn’t look a 10f type so looking elsewhere in this one.

Mark Johnston’s WINGED SPUR missed the break at Chester last week and looked to be struggling until flying late on and finishing just a length and a half eased down 4th of 9. He beat Daawy at Ripon here from this mark who has since run up a bit of a sequence now rating mid 80’s.

Ours peaked at 80 following that win and has eased back to 1 above his last winning mark of 74 and looks sound EW if running to his previous. There was strong market move for him at Ripon on Bank Holiday weekend when again delivering a late challenge at Ripon and following a trip to Brighton was backed into favourite for the Chester run last week.

Hopefully on a recovery mission, with Jason Hart up top, there’s been a bit of a drift from 10’s this morning but we’re on with a best 12/1 with bet365.

Redcar 17.40 – Winged Spur

1.50 Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Rous Stakes (Listed) (1) 5f

Timeform Top Rated
131 8. SPRING LOADED Paul D’Arcy Adam Kirby
127 4. A MOMENTOFMADNESS Charles Hills Jason Watson
126 10. FASHION QUEEN David O’Meara Ben Curtis

Analyst’s Verdict:
The vote goes to Spring Loaded, who has followed his decisive C&D victory during the summer with a couple of big efforts in top handicaps. The 6-y-o should get the strong end-to-end gallop that he craves with the likes of A Momentofmadness and Just Glamorous in the line up. Muthmir has done little wrong this year and is next on the list ahead of Mr Lupton and Mythmaker.

2.25 Stella Artois Cumberland Lodge Stakes (Group 3) (1) 1m3f211y

Timeform Top Rated
129 4. COMMUNIQUE Mark Johnston Joe Fanning
128 3. LARAAIB Owen Burrows Jim Crowley
126 1. BLAKENEY POINT Roger Charlton Kieran Shoemark

Analyst’s Verdict:
The 3-y-os Communique and First Eleven are expected to come to the fore in this intriguing contest. The latter was well on top at the finish when landing a big handicap here last time but Communique, who is clearly thriving judged on recent victories at Newbury and Newmarket, is marginally preferred. Laraaib will be a threat if responding well to the fitting of blinkers.

3.00 John Guest Racing Bengough Stakes (Group 3) (1) 6f

Timeform Top Rated
134 4. LIMATO Henry Candy Harry Bentley
129 3. GIFTED MASTER Hugo Palmer Ben Curtis
129 5. PROJECTION Roger Charlton Kieran Shoemark

Analyst’s Verdict:
Laugh A Minute appears to have improved since being gelded and while a further step forward will be needed here, Roger Varian’s charge may be equal to the task. Indeed, he is closely matched with Limato on a line through Top Score and it’s worth noting that 3-y-os have won 3 of the last 4 runnings of this race. A class act at his best, Limato is feared most ahead of Projection and Dream of Dreams.

3.35 Bet With Ascot Challenge Cup (Heritage Handicap) (2) 7f

Timeform Top Rated
126 5. CAPE BYRON Roger Varian David Egan
125+ 15. RAISING SAND Jamie Osborne Nicola Currie (3)
124 4. GEORGE BOWEN Richard Fahey Sebastian Woods (5)

Analyst’s Verdict:
A deserved big handicap success beckons for Cape Byron, who was first home in his group when beaten ½-length by Ripp Orf over C&D last month. The 4-y-o meets that rival on 2 lb better terms now and the forecast slower ground will help. Ripp Orf should be on the premises once again, but bigger threats may be posed by Raising Sand, who is lurking on a dangerous mark, Escobar and Good Effort.

4.10 Neptune Investment Management British EBF October Stakes (Listed) (1) 7f

Timeform Top Rated
123 11. EIRENE Dean Ivory Robert Winston
122 5. LUCYMAI Dean Ivory Jack Duern
120 14. RED STARLIGHT Richard Hannon Martin Harley

Analyst’s Verdict:
Preference is for Eirene, who has leading claims judged on her solid effort in Group 3 company at Doncaster’s St Leger meeting. She had All Out, Pepita and Laugh Aloud behind that day and there’s no reason to believe that any of those rivals will reverse the placings here. Red Starlight looks the pick of the Hannon-trained trio and is feared most, though Aim of Artemis is also of interest.

4.45 McGee Group Handicap (3) 5f

Timeform Top Rated
111 6. HOLMESWOOD Michael Dods Callum Rodriguez
110 11. ALAADEL Stuart Williams Martin Harley
110 12. ONLY SPOOFING Jedd O’Keeffe S. P. Davis (5)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Holmeswood again shaped better than the bare result when fourth in a big-field Haydock handicap last weekend, faring best of those held up and of those drawn high. Now 3 lb below his last winning mark and with blinkers refitted, the 4-y-o could be the answer. Only Spoofing is holding his form well and should give another good account, while Leo Minor, Daschas and Big Lachie are others to consider.

Today’s Bets……..

Good luck if you’re going with our each-way selections today….

Redcar 16.35 – Dawaaleeb

Redcar 17.40 – Winged Spur

(Current stakes are £37.80 EW for those backing the 1.25% EW on the £1k to £10k)
