Haydock’s card cut up badly yesterday and left our previous selection Hart Stopper to pick up an easy win at 11/2 in a 6 runner….some of you were on him so well done to you guys, however wasn’t something we felt could have been put up as the race stood at time of writing – he seems at ease in these races with just a handful of runners. Similar happened to our selection Grandee’s race where it went from an 11 runner to a 6 runner and not suited to his cover up style.

It’s Betfred Sprint day at Haydock and not a whole lot of interest here this afternoon  – we have backed Intense Romance on the last couple of outings for some decent place money and he’s back up in a C2 grade this afternoon (16.50) – clearly in good form, there’s better than wipes yer face about him at around 7’s but a bit of an unknown on this heavy surface and this looks tougher than a C4 at Carlisle which means we’ll leave him alone today.

There’s Timeform below for the Haydock meet but we’ll concentrate on Thirsk for members selections today.

1.50 Read Luke Morris Blog At Unibet Handicap (2) 1¾m

Timeform Top Rated:
121 5. RUDE AWAKENING Sir Mark Prescott Bt Non Runner
119 4. MEKONG Sir Michael Stoute Ryan Moore
118p 6. NATURAL HISTORY Andrew Balding Oisin Murphy

Analyst’s Verdict:
Mekong was a cracking fourth in the Melrose at York despite failing to justify favouritism and can resume winning ways, his front-running style bound to see him to good effect around here. Irishchallenger Persian Lion and Natural History are big players also.

2.25 Unibet Mile (Superior Mile) (Group 3) (1) 1m37y

Timeform Top Rated:
128 2. EMMAUS Roger Varian Daniel Tudhope
127 5. TABARRAK Richard Hannon Non Runner
126+ 3. HERE COMES WHEN Andrew Balding Oisin Murphy

Analyst’s Verdict:
Regal Reality has the ability to go all the way to the top based on the level of form he’s achieved in 3 runs to date, so he’s expected to take his record to 3 from 4 up against some exposed rivals. Here Comes When would enter the equation if the ground became really soft and Emmaus is a big danger if back to his reappearance form.

3.00 32Red Casino Ascendant Stakes (Listed) (1) 1m37y

Timeform Top Rated:
114p 1. BEATBOXER John Gosden Non Runner
112 5. GREAT SCOT Tom Dascombe Richard Kingscote
111 6. PERSIAN MOON Mark Johnston Franny Norton

Analyst’s Verdict:
Floating Artist created a good impression when winning on debut at Goodwood and looks to have leading claims with improvement on the cards. Persian Moon and Great Scot can fight it out for minor honours.

3.35 32Red Casino Handicap (2) 1¾m

Timeform Top Rated:
117 8. RESHOUN Ian Williams Gerald Mosse
116 4. SPEEDO BOY Ian Williams Jim Crowley
116 7. MAM’SELLE William Haggas Paul Hanagan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Mam’selle hasn’t been at her very best on fast ground of late but her mark has come down as a result and she’s well treated on the form she showed when third in a Goodwood listed event on soft in the spring. She might be worth chancing with conditions likely to be more in her favour here but there are plenty of dangers, headed by Speedo Boy, Bolder Bob and Hochfeld.

4.15 32Red Sprint Cup Stakes (Group 1) (1) 6f

Timeform Top Rated:
143 3. HARRY ANGEL Clive Cox Adam Kirby
135 10. JAMES GARFIELD George Scott Frankie Dettori
135 6. THE TIN MAN James Fanshawe Oisin Murphy

Analyst’s Verdict:
Harry Angel can land this Group 1 for a second time. Connections are bullish about how well he has recovered from the bruising sustained at Ascot and his comprehensive win from Tasleet and The Tin Man 12 months ago is still fresh in the memory. Brando, who was second in the July Cup, and James Garfield are the big dangers.

4.50 Unibet Be Friendly Handicap (2) 5f

Timeform Top Rated:
120 9. MAYLEAF SHINE Iain Jardine Tom Eaves
119 2. SIR ROBERT CHEVAL Robert Cowell Gerald Mosse
117 4. ENCORE D’OR Robert Cowell Jim Crowley

Analyst’s Verdict:
A race with a typically wide-open feel, and a chance taken on last year’s heroine Mayleaf Shine. Now operating just 1 lb above that mark, she hasn’t really been seen to best effect this term, and could represent a spot of value. Intense Romance, who was a good second at Sandown last week, and the ultra-consistent Poyle Vinnie head up the dangers.

5.25 EBF Breeders’ Series 32Red Fillies’ Handicap (2) 1¼m100y

Timeform Top Rated:
108 1. FLYING NORTH Richard Hannon Gary Mahon (3)
107 7. APPOINTED Tim Easterby Rachel Richardson
106 5. EXHORT Richard Fahey Paul Hanagan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Flying North is going from strength to strength and is taken to notch a fourth win of the season back up in trip. Lorelina is similarly thriving and looks a big danger. Empress Ali has been placed in this for the last 2 years and might be building up to something.
