A cracking way to round of the Ayr Festival with a big priced 25/1 winner in STAXTON.

It’s been a while since our last Easterby winner but he certainly found the going to his liking racing prominent throughout. Just got up by a head with the added bonus of our other selection, and last years winner, Magical Spirit coming home 4th.

For those on the new 2021/22 £1k to £10k Annual Challenge, the bank is £1140.66 and current full stakes, unless advised, £14.07 EW

The 2021 Turf bank currently stands at +65.86 pts to 1pt EW stakes with over a 37% win/place rate. 

The 2020/21 All Weather bank ended at +144 pts to 1pt EW stakes with over a 39% win/place rate.

Today’s Selections

Ayr 14.30

Last years winner MAGICAL SPIRIT will have no doubt had this one in mind all season. With the going firmer than usual so far the festival isn’t throwing up to many shocks and with this one proven in these monster field handicaps should go well again here.

At Ascot LTO, finished 3rd to Tis Marvellous who went and won a Listed NTO. Entered up with stablemate, the improving Bergerac, is the choice of Kevin Stott. Lightly raced so far has only race one poor race this term.

Came back strongly in May from a break running well on going as quick as this from 3 higher. It seems to be the rails draws that benefit here and drawn 4 can’t be a bad thing.

There’s a best 8’s and SIX slots with most to record.

Looking at one with some class at a price, STAXTON has had a slightly disappointing season of late. Hasn’t featured in three Ayr Gold Cups so far. All have been on the easy surfaces he ‘prefers’ but was out in May rocking up first time of asking on going this quick.

Indeed does have a 50% place record in class on going and does like these big field handicaps. Another well drawn under Duran Fentiman is our outsider poke for this one with general 25’s on offer and the same 6 places.
