A busy day and some cracking fields for a Sunday, especially at Ayr with Nicky Richards usually a trainer to follow at the track and bang in form. He runs his highly rated chaser Reivers Lad in the Join Racing TV Now Novices’ Chase (14.00) taking on Dan Skelton’s Destrier.

Elsewhere there is racing at Taunton and Thurles, with Timeform for the latter.

We’re heading ‘oop north’ to Ayr with no apparent weather issues for our members selections today.

12.30 Connolly’s Red Mills Irish European Breeders Fund Auction Maiden Hurdle 2m

Timeform Top Rated
135 6. THE HOLY ONE Mrs J. Harrington Robbie Power
119 4. GENERALISATION Henry de Bromhead Rachael Blackmore
117 10. MASON JAR Miss Hilary McLoughlin Denis O’Regan

Analyst’s Verdict:
The Holy One sets a clear standard on the pick of his form and this represents an excellent opportunity. Generalisation and Mason Jar can battle for minor honours.

1.00 Betvictor W.T. O’Grady Memorial Irish European Breeders Fund Novice Hurdle 2¾m61y

Timeform Top Rated
142 3. FIRST APPROACH Noel Meade Sean Flanagan
140 1. MONBEG WORLDWIDE Gordon Elliott J. W. Kennedy
133+ 2. RONALD PUMP Matthew J. Smith P. Townend

Analyst’s Verdict:
With this step back up in trip sure to suit First Approach, he is narrowly preferred to Monbeg Worldwide.

1.35 Matty Ryan Memorial Handicap Hurdle 2m

Timeform Top Rated
144§ 1. THE KING OF BREGA Henry de Bromhead Daniel Holden (7)
143 3. ASK NILE Seamus Neville A. E. Lynch
141 10. YOUNGNEDOFTHEHILL Shane Nolan Conor Orr (5)

Analyst’s Verdict:
The King of Brega arrives in good order, producing a careerbest effort to score over C&D 4 weeks ago and a repeat should see him firmly in the mix again. Like An Open Book and Polished Steel are a couple of others to consider.

2.10 Horse & Jockey Hotel Chase (Grade 2) 2½m118y

Timeform Top Rated
179 7. TOTAL RECALL W. P. Mullins P. Townend
169 3. INVITATION ONLY W. P. Mullins R. Walsh
169 4. SUB LIEUTENANT Henry de Bromhead Rachael Blackmore

Analyst’s Verdict:
Tout Est Permis has much improved since joining this yard, making it 2 from 2 at Navan last time, and is worth another try at this level. Willie Mullins holds a very strong hand with Total Recall/ Invitation Only and are feared most.

2.40 Order of St George Coolmore National Hunt Sires Irish European Breeders Fund Mares Novice Chase (Grade 2) 2½m118y

Timeform Top Rated
161p 1. CAMELIA DE COTTE W. P. Mullins P. Townend
152p 3. MERI DEVIE Paul Nolan B. J. Cooper
144 2. ELLIE MAC Henry de Bromhead Rachael Blackmore

Analyst’s Verdict:
This may well develop in to a match between Camelia de Cotte and Meri Devie. The former arrives having landed 4 of her 5 starts over fences and is narrowly selected to continue the good work. Ellie Mac may well appreciate the switch to a race confined to her own sex having struggled in a Leopardstown Grade 1 over Christmas.

3.15 Watch RacingTV With Free Trial Now Handicap Chase 2m5f141y

Timeform Top Rated
143p 2. ROARING BULL Gordon Elliott J. W. Kennedy
142x 3. TEACHER’S PET J. P. Dempsey L. P. Dempsey
141 5. SURF INSTRUCTOR Henry de Bromhead Rachael Blackmore

Analyst’s Verdict:
Roaring Bull seems to have been handed a lenient opening mark bearing in mind his second at Fairyhouse a couple of starts back so, having scored in a lesser event there since, he boasts leading claims with blinkers fitted now switched to handicaps. Laid Back Luke and Teacher’s Pet arrive in form and could give him most to think about.

3.50 Arctic Tack Stud Hunters Chase 2m7f156y

Timeform Top Rated
163 9. UCELLO CONTI Gordon Elliott Mr B. O’Neill
142 3. GWENCILY BERBAS Alan Fleming Miss A. B. O’Connor (5)
133 2. CHOSEN DREAM Graham McKeever Mr D. O’Connor

Analyst’s Verdict:
Ucello Conti lowered the colours of the previously unstoppable Sydney Paget in a point last week and should be very difficult to stop venturing into hunters for the first time. Gwencily Berbas and Chosen Dream also bring a solid level of form from between the flags but they’ve got an uphill task to stop the selection.
