Oh we do love to be at Ponty on a cold wet afternoon!!!!!!

After recent weather it looks like we’ve got that and the going may even have a bit of cut and a few decent handicaps of interest today.

(15.00) Michele Strogoff has been consistent all season……SDS will look to make all but Paul Hanagan on ALMUNTHER looks a slightly better proposition in terms of value. However the late defection of Michael Bell’s Never Been to Paris leaves this a 7 runner and nothing strong enough to warrant a play.

In the (16.05) we have backed Sheepscar Lad for a win at Donny on the soft, today’s conditions are more likely to suit than the recent efforts but all his best form has come at 5f and is one we will be looking at as the ground and current rating eases. HIGHLY SPRUNG has more EW wipes yer face value about him, Les Eyre’s charge has proven C&D form and though up in the ratings back to a highest 83 still looks the one who is best drawn from a pace angle.

We’ve just one for members going in the (17.05) below and Timeform to back up the meeting  below.

For those on the £1k to £10k challenge, it’s been 3 months of incremental profits…….our bank has grown by over 96% with an ROI of over 25%….current stakes are now £24.38 EW

2.00 British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes (4) 5f3y

Timeform Top Rated:
96p 3. FLAWLESS JEWEL Richard Fahey Paul Hanagan
88 2. MURQAAB David O’Meara Daniel Tudhope

Analyst’s Verdict:
Flawless Jewel came up just short starting out at York 16 days ago but she can be expected to go one better this time. Murqaab isn’t progressing but is likely to finish second unless newcomer Pinkie Pie is above average.

2.30 ITV7 Starts Now Handicap (5) 1½m5y

Timeform Top Rated:
79+ 8. PENTLAND HILLS Chris Wall Silvestre De Sousa
78 7. CORREGGIO Micky Hammond Jim Crowley
77+ 6. LIFE KNOWLEDGE Lawrence Mullaney Daniel Tudhope

Analyst’s Verdict:
Pentland Hills is still unexposed and the booking of Silvestre De Sousa suggests a bold bid is expected. Life Knowledge and Correggio make up the shortlist.

3.00 Napoleons Casino Bradford Handicap (4) 1¼m5y

Timeform Top Rated:
92 8. NEVERBEEN TO PARIS Michael Bell Louis Steward
91+ 4. PIONEERING David O’Meara Daniel Tudhope
90 9. ALMUNTHER Micky Hammond Paul Hanagan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Michele Strogoff deserves credit for his consistency and the booking of De Sousa can help end his losing run. Almunther is dangerous if allowed an easy lead around here again, while Roddy may still do better now handicapping.

3.35 Sky Bet Go-Racing-In-Yorkshire Summer Festival Pomfret Stakes (Listed) (1) 1m6y

Timeform Top Rated:
124 5. GABR Sir Michael Stoute Jim Crowley
123 2. BIG COUNTRY Michael Appleby Silvestre De Sousa
122 1. ANOTHER TOUCH Richard Fahey Tony Hamilton

Analyst’s Verdict:
Zetland Gold Cup winner Big Country is certainly good enough to open his account at listed level, and with the assistance of Silvestre De Sousa in what could be a tactical affair, he gets the narrow vote ahead of the promising 3-y-o Gabr, with Another Touch and the in-form Salateen both considered in a tightly-knit affair.

4.05 tiesplanet.com – Ties For Every Occasion Handicap (3) 6f

Timeform Top Rated:
100 5. HIGHLY SPRUNG Les Eyre Joe Fanning
99 2. GIN IN THE INN Richard Fahey Paul Hanagan
99 6. REQUINTO DAWN Richard Fahey Tony Hamilton

Analyst’s Verdict:
Requinto Dawn is at the top of his game at the moment and, given the forecast rain, a wide draw mightn’t be quite the negative that it often can be at this track, so he can go one better than the last twice at the expense of another thriving sort in Mr Wagyu. Highly Sprung boasts an excellent record here and shouldn’t be discounted.

4.35 Pontefract And District Golf Club Ltd Novice Stakes (5) 1m6y

Timeform Top Rated:
92p 5. ROCK FORCE Tom Dascombe Richard Kingscote
78 1. CHEER THE TITLE Tom Clover Jim Crowley
77p 6. JOIE DE VIVRE Richard Fahey Paul Hanagan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Rock Force made a highly promising start to his career at Newmarket in the spring and will be hard to beat with improvement on the cards. Joie de Vivre should build on her debut third but it would be no surprise if the main threat emerged from well-bred newcomer Collide, particularly if the market speaks in his favour.

5.10 Fly High Faye Nickels Handicap (5) 5f3y

Timeform Top Rated:
82 1. MUSHARRIF Declan Carroll David Nolan
81 5. GEOFF POTTS Richard Fahey Paul Hanagan
81§ 8. TWENTYSVNTHLANCERS Paul Midgley Dougie Costello

Analyst’s Verdict:
Musharrif‘s losing run is a slight concern but he’s been thereabouts of late and might be up to getting his head back in front. Canford Bay arrives on the back of a runner-up effort at Haydock and can go well again, while Scoundrel was a bit keen for his own good through the early stages at Beverley at the start of the week and is likely still in form.
