Sunday Newsletter – 30th December 2018

A cracking Saturday for us with I’M A GAME CHANGER winning for the ‘right honorable’ Richard Johnson OBE ? with Philip Hobbs’ charge holding morning price and going off at a nice 13/2……..we then saw our other two selections land at better than ‘wipes yer face’ places. Landecker came home in 2nd at Donny (15.10) and Ballybroker Breeze 3rd in the Kelso (15.15).

Today sees meets at Haydock & Taunton…..there’s Timeform for the former at which recent winner Tomkevi goes in the (14.30) – both he and Too Many Chiefs have struggled when upped in grade and we will look elsewhere for two members selections today.

For those on the £1k to £10k challenge….we’ve now over a 37% win/place strike rate …..our bank is now £1110.87 and current stakes are now £13.89 EW

12.20 Bryn Gates Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle (4) 2¼m191y

Timeform Top Rated
132 5. JABULANI Nigel Twiston-Davies Jordan Nailor (6)
131§ 9. THREE STAR GENERAL David Pipe Bryony Frost
129 8. DESTINED TO SHINE Kerry Lee Richard Patrick (3)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Three Star General lurks on a good mark and ran well from the front at Uttoxeter last time. If similar tactics are pulled off here he could be hard to catch under Bryony Frost. Jabulani is another who is well -handicapped if reviving back over hurdles, while Hexham-winner Saint Freule can go well again if keeping up a good attitude.

12.55 Bet At racinguk.com Beginners’ Chase (3) 2¼m211y

Timeform Top Rated
142p 5. SLANELOUGH Rose Dobbin Craig Nichol
139p 4. SCORPION SID Jamie Snowden Sam Twiston-Davies

Analyst’s Verdict:
Some promising chasers, with Slanelough narrowly preferred to Scorpion Sid. Mr Mcgo is entitled to have come on for his first run for 20 months at Bangor, while Diablo de Rouhet is interesting on his first go over fences.

1.25 Billinge ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle (4) 1m7f144y

Timeform Top Rated
134+ 2. MURATELLO Nigel Twiston-Davies Daryl Jacob
133 1. ASK BEN Graeme McPherson Kielan Woods
132p 6. NOT NORMAL Emma Lavelle Nick Scholfield

Analyst’s Verdict:
No surprise if Muratello was another successful recruit from across the Channel for his new connections. He’s already reached a fairly useful level of form having raced just twice in France and seems sure to improve. Bumper-winner Keep Rolling seems sure to have a future in this sphere, while Not Normal should progress from his second at Bangor at the start of the month.

2.00 Last Fling Handicap Chase (2) 3m3f57y

Timeform Top Rated
153+ 2. AMI DESBOIS Graeme McPherson Kielan Woods
152p 6. BACK TO THE THATCH Henry Daly Richard Johnson
151 7. VERY FIRST TIME Tim Easterby Brian Hughes

Analyst’s Verdict:
Back To The Thatch remains with an unexposed element to him, probably yet to show all his stamina, and he could be the answer to this competitive staying handicap. Very First Time is another second-season chaser who probably has a bigger effort in him, and he’s sure to be cherry-ripe for this. Ami Desbois and Another Venture are others from Chepstow to consider.

2.30 Happy Birthday Vernon Phillips Handicap Hurdle (3) 2¾m177y

Timeform Top Rated
136 5. VOLCANO Nigel Twiston-Davies Sam Twiston-Davies
135 9. HASTRUBAL Henry Daly Andrew Tinkler
133 10. KALAHARRY Alistair Whillans Callum Bewley

Analyst’s Verdict:
Volcano and Hastrubal both have low mileage and could be the pair to focus on. The latter has chased home progressive types in 2 starts this season and is not passed over at all lightly. Still, preference is for Nigel Twiston-Davies’ charge, who finished clear of the rest when going close at Uttoxeter and should have more to offer as a stayer. Ballyhome and Ice Cool Champs are others with claims.

3.05 Racing UK Handicap Chase (3) 2½m135y

Timeform Top Rated
142 3. KAYF BLANCO Graeme McPherson Kielan Woods
141§ 2. GOLD OPERA Keith Dalgleish Billy Garritty (7)
139p 1. DIDERO VALLIS Venetia Williams Charlie Deutsch

Analyst’s Verdict:
Kayf Blanco is still seeking his first win over fences, but there’s no doubting he’s on a good mark nowadays and he could be worth chancing in the hope he doesn’t get too far back again. Gold Opera made a good start for this yard when second at Newcastle and is another to consider along with Didero Vallis, who left his chase debut well behind when winning at Carlisle.

3.35 Platt Bridge Standard Open National Hunt Flat (4) 1m7f144y

Timeform Top Rated
113 7. SOME DETAIL Nigel Hawke Sean Bowen
112 3. GAELIK COAST Donald McCain Brian Hughes
111 1. MR GREY SKY Kim Bailey David Bass

Analyst’s Verdict:
Some Detail did enough to think he can win an event like this when finding only one too good at Hereford on debut and is marginally preferred to Gaelik Coast, who appeals as an excellent jumping prospect, and Mr Grey, who carries a penalty for his C&D win at the start of the month.
