Thursday Newsletter – 17th January 2019

Three meetings to look at today with racing at Market Rasen, Wincanton & Ludlow. The latter offers nothing in terms of field sizes and we’ve a couple of members selections from the others. Supporting Timeform is for Market Rasen.

There were no selections yesterday so it’s straight in with today’s thoughts. Let’s Get At It looked comfortable winning over 2m 4f LTO and the step up in trip shouldn’t inconvenience him. He goes at Market Rasen (13.00) and retaining the tongue tie is a wipes yer face priced 9/2.

Another of note is  Snapdragon Fire has been solid this term and goes in the (13.55) at Wincanton. Tom Lacey’s charge could well be up to defying top weight and more for the lumpers with around 7/2 on offer. Tizzard’s french import Highest Sun heads the market and they do indeed look the one’s for the forecast?

Today’s Selections

Wincanton 12.50

Bumper form may be a bit tentative but Neil King’s  MYPLACEATMIDNIGHT beat Lucy Wadham’s Potters Hedger very easily going back a while and that one ran up at Plumpton yesterday.

King’s string are running to the mark….as is Bryony Frost. It was a decent performance behind Rhythm Is A Dancer at this track LTO who looks a smart novice to go on.  He made late progress and looks set fair to go well on handicap debut going well on this ground.

There’s a best priced 8’s but generally 7’s this morning for our first EW bet

Wincanton 12.50 – Myplaceatmidnight

Wincanton 14.25

Christian Williams has hit some for of late and his Potters Corner was impressive LTO when rediscovering  at this track under James Bowen – back up 7lb may just impede a follow up and we are looking at another trainer we mentioned last week whose string is just coming into a rich vein of form.

Tim Vaughan has had 4 wins/5 places from his last 16 and puts up LEN BRENNAN in this one. Still a maiden but whose 3rd LTO can be read up with those who beat him home in that one winning on the weekend. Ok Corrall &Impulsive Star both won C1’s at Warwick on Saturday and Vaughan gets’ this one out off 122 before a 5lb hike comes into effect.

He looks decent wipes yer face EW value in a 9 runner with a best 11/2 on offer from Betfair.

Wincanton 14.25 – Len Brennan

12.30 Mansionbet Novices’ Hurdle (4) 2¼m140y

Timeform Top Rated:
132p 3. GARRETTSTOWN Olly Murphy Aidan Coleman
131 1. DEYRANN DE CARJAC Alan King Tom Cannon
110 2. EVENT OF SIVOLA Mark Walford Jamie Hamilton

Analyst’s Verdict:
Garrettstown might have got off the mark at Carlisle last time had it not been for an error 3 out and he has enough quality to make amends. Previous-winner Deyrann de Carjac, who is more exposed than the selection, is the main threat, while Gold Fields is the pick of the hurdling newcomers.

1.00 Mansionbet Handicap Hurdle (4) 2m7f16y

Timeform Top Rated:
126 4. IWILLDOIT Sam Thomas Charlie Deutsch
125 2. BALLYHOME Fergal O’Brien Connor Brace (7)
124p 3. ALMOST GOLD Ian Williams William Kennedy

Analyst’s Verdict:
This is a strong race for the grade, with Almost Gold the selection from a very attractive mark if his Ascot run last time can be put down to an off day. Iwilldoit is a big danger under a penalty following an easy win at Bangor, with Ballyhome completing the shortlist.

1.35 Mansionbet Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle (4) 2¼m140y

Timeform Top Rated:
130 7. ROCKLIFFE Micky Hammond Billy Garritty (8)
129 2. CEARA BE Alex Hales Jonjo O’Neill Jr.
128 5. MINELLA FIVEO Sue Smith Kane Yeoman (8)

Analyst’s Verdict:
A competitive affair on paper with the vote in favour of Corinto. Olly Murphy’s charge caught the eye on his qualifying run at Fakenham last month, and retains plenty of potential now handicapping. Easy Catterick scorer Rockliffe warrants a second look though, as does Twotwothree who wasn’t seen to anything like best effect last time.

2.05 Weatherbys Racing Bank Handicap Chase (Qualifier) (3) 2m3f34y

Timeform Top Rated:
140 7. VIRNON Sarah Humphrey Aidan Coleman
138 6. ONE FORTY SEVEN Nigel Twiston-Davies Jamie Bargary
136 2. ONTOPOFTHEWORLD Peter Bowen Sean Bowen

Analyst’s Verdict:
Virnon is back in top form at present and should at least remain competitive from a reassessed mark just 1 lb higher than when second at Sedgefield on Boxing Day. The Winkler requires a market check starting out for a shrewd new trainer back from 8 months off, while One Forty Seven is worth another chance having possibly found the ground too testing at Bangor last time.

2.40 Alan Swinbank Mares’ Standard Open National Hunt Flat (Listed) (1) 2m148y

Timeform Top Rated:
122 4. MRS HYDE Fergal O’Brien Paddy Brennan
118 5. SHANTEWE Jamie Snowden Gavin Sheehan
114+ 1. A PERFECT GIFT Olly Murphy Aidan Coleman

Analyst’s Verdict:
Mrs Hyde surpassed her winning form at Ludlow when fourth in listed company at Cheltenham in November, and with that race unsurprisingly working out well, she is the one to aim at. Shantewe and A Perfect Gift may give her most to think about.

3.15 Mansionbet Handicap Chase (4) 2m5f89y

Timeform Top Rated:
126+ 2. OVERWORKDUNDERPAID Charlie Longsdon Brian Hughes
125+ 5. UNZING Charles Pogson Charlie Hammond (5)
124§ 3. WEST WIZARD Sophie Leech Paddy Brennan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Overworkdunderpaid was in the process of running creditably prior to falling at the last over further at Doncaster last month and, with the drop back in trip expected to suit on that evidence, he could be worth chancing now partnered by Brian Hughes. The in-form Ryalex is feared most, ahead of West Wizard.

3.45 Download The Mansionbet App Handicap Chase (5) 2m7f191y

Timeform Top Rated:
102§ 4. HOUNDSCOURT Joanne Foster Sean Quinlan
100 1. CARLO ROCKS Caroline Bailey Sean Bowen
99 3. ROBIN DEUZ POIS Paul Webber Paddy Brennan

Analyst’s Verdict:
It’s a long way back to find Sands Cove‘s last success, but it came over this C&D from a significantly higher mark and there have been definite signs this year that he retains ability, so it’s worth taking a chance on the veteran chaser to bounce back dropping into a lesser race than previously. Carlo Rocks is a big danger if in the same form as last time and Robin Deuz Pois can’t be ruled out.

Today’s Bets……..

Good luck if you’re going with our 1.25% EW selections today….

Wincanton 14.25 – Len Brennan

(Current stakes are £11.05 EW for those backing the 1.25% EW on the £1k to £10k)
