Thursday Newsletter – 7th February

There’s decent cards today with three meets and some good handicaps to consider at Ffos Las, Donny and Huntingdon. Timeform is for Donny and we have our members picks below.

At Huntingdon, one we have previously mentioned, Choochoobugaloo goes in the (13.00) and maybe one for the lumpers. She does like to come from off the pace and despite plenty of pace expected in this one, it’s always a risk coming from way back in an 16 runner.

The (13.30) sees Lord Getaway attempt a three-timer and does look ripe for a place at worst with wipes yer face 5/1 odds available. He goes back chasing following a win over hurdles and the ex-pointer should be on the premises.

Timeform is for Donny on Thursday for those looking for inspiration from the speedmeisters.

Yesterday, McGinty’s Dream won at Ayr (16.10), heading home members selection So Satisfied…….that made a smidgin’ of profit from another crossbar this week.

For those on the £1k to £10k challenge it’s currently a 35% win/place strike rate…..our bank is now £780.90 and stakes are now £9.76 EW

1.40 Ice Cream Direct Handicap Chase (Qualifier) (4) 2m7f214y

Timeform Top Rated
138 3. STRONG RESEMBLANCE Oliver Greenall William Kennedy
134 5. VOLT FACE Paul Webber Brian Hughes
133 1. VOIE DANS VOIE Alan King Wayne Hutchinson

Analyst’s Verdict:
Strong Resemblance is on a roll, winning 4 of his last 5 starts over hurdles and fences, and could still be ahead of the handicapper. Minella For Me may emerge as the biggest threat if seeing out the longer trip.

2.10 Sun Racing Novices’ Hurdle (Qualifier) (4) 2½m181y

Timeform Top Rated
141p 3. ONE FOR ROSIE Nigel Twiston-Davies Sam Twiston-Davies
135p 9. MY STORY Tom George Wayne Hutchinson
134p 2. DE FORGOTTEN ONE Tim Vaughan Alan Johns

Analyst’s Verdict:
One For Rosie lost his unbeaten record with a rather tame display at Carlisle in December, yet he had previously looked one to keep firmly onside when scoring in a bumper/over hurdles and, on balance, he’s well worth another chance to get back on the up. C&D winner De Forgotten One and My Story head up the dangers in a competitive race of its type.

2.45 Polypipe Handicap Hurdle (Qualifier) (3) 3m84y

Timeform Top Rated
142 3. CANELO Alan King Wayne Hutchinson
140p 2. CAPTAIN CARGO Caroline Bailey James Bowen
139 10. KATY ROYAL Chris Fairhurst Brian Hughes

Analyst’s Verdict:
Captain Cargo is improving in leaps and bounds and can follow up last month’s impressive Warwick victory. The dangers are headed by Canelo, who has some strong novice form and likely has more to offer over staying trips this term. Sliding Doors got his career back on track with a good second last time and completes the shortlist.

3.20 1st Security Solutions Novices’ Hurdle (4) 2m128y

Timeform Top Rated
146p 2. SCARLET DRAGON Alan King Wayne Hutchinson
134 1. DOCTOR DEX Tom George Jonathan Burke
127 6. FRANSHAM Pam Sly Sam Twiston-Davies

Analyst’s Verdict:
Smart Flat performer Scarlet Dragon won with plenty of authority at Huntingdon recently and should have little trouble following up. Doctor Dex looks the one to chase him home.

3.55 Saint-Gobain Weber Novices’ Chase (4) 2m7f214y

Timeform Top Rated
156p 2. CHOSEN PATH Alan King Wayne Hutchinson
155p 1. TOP VILLE BEN Philip Kirby Sean Quinlan

Analyst’s Verdict:
A shootout as tight as it gets, with Chosen Path just preferred over Top Ville Ben given the fewer miles he has on the clock, though punters may be wise to actually back the bigger-priced of the pair granted how closely matched they are.

4.30 Hilton Garden Inn Doncaster Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle (5) 2m128y

Timeform Top Rated
111§ 7. PRIMOGENITURE Martin Keighley Harry Stock (3)
110 5. ELYSIAN PRINCE Andrew Hamilton Steven Fox
108 4. MAGIC DRAGON Philip Kirby Thomas Dowson (3)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Dew Pond found only a well-backed stable-switcher too strong at Kelso last month, and given his Flat ability, there ought to be races in him from this sort of mark. Magic Dragon is an unexposed last-time-out winner so has to command respect, while Veiled Secret requires a market check having undergone a breathing operation.
