Thursday Newsletter – 7th March 2019

With no member selections yesterday it’s straight in with racing at Carlisle and Wincanton. Timeform is for the latter below with the feature there being the (14.40) Star Sports In The App Store Now Handicap Chase. Looking at that one it’s a question of who is going to set the pace and these ‘falsely run’ races hardly inspire any confidence in thinking out the course of the race. It does look like it will be up to Sam T-D’s experience to grasp that and he’s up top on a lumping priced best 7/2 One Of Us.

Carlisle looks like it’s going to be a real ‘slogfest’ looking outside the window with a promise of worse to come – good luck to all up there 🙂

1.40 starsportsbet.co.uk Handicap Hurdle (5) 2m3f166y

Timeform Top Rated
111p 4. PEMBERLEY Emma Lavelle Aidan Coleman
110 5. AMZAC MAGIC Jack R. Barber Nick Scholfield
109§ 14. BLUE APRIL Jeremy Scott Rex Dingle (5)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Pemberley appeals as the sort to do better in handicaps and gets the nod to make a winning start upped to a trip which seems sure to suit. Amzac Magic took a forward step when third at Fontwell 3 weeks ago and may prove next best ahead of Irish-raider Grey Atlantic Way.

2.10 All Sport Insurance Handicap Hurdle (3) 2m5f82y

Timeform Top Rated
141 3. SILVER KAYF Kim Bailey David Bass
140 1. MYPLACEATMIDNIGHT Neil King Bryony Frost
136 5. KINGS RYDE Nicky Henderson Nico de Boinville

Analyst’s Verdict:
Myplaceatmidnight is progressing well at this venue and he rates the percentage call in what is admittedly a wide-open contest. Kings Ryde and Evidence de Thaix are likely improvers representing leading yards, while Silver Kayf lurks on a tempting mark for an in-form stable.

2.40 Star Sports In The App Store Now Handicap Chase (3) 3m1f30y

Timeform Top Rated
136 3. MYSTICAL KNIGHT Anthony Honeyball Rex Dingle (5)
134 7. ZAMPARELLI Dan Skelton Harry Skelton
133 5. BARBROOK STAR Philip Hobbs Tom O’Brien

Analyst’s Verdict:
Mystical Knight lost his way for Rebecca Curtis but starts out for his new yard on a potentially lenient mark after 11 months off so could be worth chancing. The unexposed Len Brennan is going the right way and is another to consider along with One of Us.

3.15 All Sport Insurance Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle (4) 1m7f65y

Timeform Top Rated
138 2. DIEU BENISSE Nicky Henderson James Bowen
135p 12. MIRANDA Paul Nicholls Harry Cobden
130 10. SWEET ADARE Victor Dartnall James Best

Analyst’s Verdict:
Miranda completed a successful hurdling debut at Ludlow with a fair bit in hand and is still in receipt of weight from her elders despite shouldering a penalty, so there’s every chance of her following up at the expense of Dieu Benisse, who has looked promising in her own right. Sweet Adare makes up the three.

Timeform Top Rated
137p 10. VIS A VIS Neil Mulholland Noel Fehily
136 9. TALKTOMENOW Warren Greatrex Andrew Tinkler
135 5. LORD DUVEEN Philip Hobbs Micheal Nolan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Storm Arising and Vis A Vis both look certain to be winning races over timber before long, though marginal preference is for Paul Nicholls’ inmate. He again caught the eye in a strong race at Chepstow last time and appeals as the type to take another leap forward. Talktomenow would also have a chance if bouncing back to his debut form.

Timeform Top Rated
137p 10. TREVELYN’S CORN Paul Nicholls Harry Cobden
136p 2. COLDITZ CASTLE Alan King Wayne Hutchinson
132 5. MANVERS HOUSE Robert Walford James Best

Analyst’s Verdict:
Smart point winner Trevelyn’s Corn made a highly promising start to his career over hurdles for new connections at Ascot in November, just too much in need of the experience against a trio of previous winners, and he’s fancied to come out on top with improvement on the cards. The dangers are headed by Colditz Castle, who remains with potential now upped in trip, and Aintree bumper winner Sojourn.

4.55 Star Sports In The App Store Now Novices’ Handicap Chase (4) 3m1f30y

Timeform Top Rated
114 8. FEARSOME FRED Dr Jeremy Naylor Tom Cheesman (5)
113 7. LIZZIE LANGTON Colin Tizzard Harry Cobden
112 2. TRIOPAS Tom Lacey Mr Tommie M. O’Brien (5)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Sandford Castle ran his best race for a while when third at Ffos Las last time, deserving extra credit given his proximity to a sound gallop, and should take to this sphere (winning pointer). Fearsome Fred looked an unlucky loser over C&D 19 days ago and is an obvious threat, while Tigeralley also needs considering on chase bow.

5.30 starsportsbet.co.uk Maiden Open National Hunt Flat (5) 1m7f65y

Timeform Top Rated
115+ 6. RAVEN COURT Philip Hobbs Tom O’Brien
107p 4. GREEN DOLPHIN Harry Fry Noel Fehily
107 5. HAWK’S WELL Emma Lavelle Leighton Aspell

Analyst’s Verdict:
Beyond Redemption cost plenty having quickened away impressively in an Irish point and he couldn’t have joined a more capable operation, so he’s expected to make a big impression in bumpers before embarking on a fruitful jumping career. Raven Court and Green Dolphin are the selection’s chief rivals based on their promising debuts.
