A decent looking opening race for each-way opportunities at Catterick this afternoon and we’ll be making a member play in that one. Elsewhere there’s a meet at Fakenham that’s hard to enthuse about with the handicap races only offering two paying places.

11.55 sunracing.co.uk Handicap (5) 1m13y

Timeform Top Rated
86 4. FINGAL’S CAVE Philip Kirby Jack Mitchell
85 3. THE GROOVE David Evans Non Runner
84 12. BREAK THE SILENCE Scott Dixon Theodore Ladd (5)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Fingal’s Cave has come close the last twice and remains on a decent mark. He gets the nod in the opener. Recent Newcastle winner Ascot Week is feared most with Coviglia next best.

12.25 Betway Novice Median Auction Stakes (6) 6f16y

Timeform Top Rated
88 3. POINT ZERO Michael Appleby Alistair Rawlinson
86 7. WIND STORM K. R. Burke Clifford Lee
59p 5. LAMBRINI LULLABY Lisa Williamson Kevin Lundie (5)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Point Zero reacted well to the first-time blinkers when just pipped here last week and is taken to gain compensation. Wind Storm is the danger on form, whilst Double Cover could be the pick of the newcomers.

1.00 Betway Boost Handicap (5) 1½m14y

Timeform Top Rated
82 2. STAR ASCENDING Jennie Candlish Edward Greatrex
81 6. MR CARBONATOR Philip Kirby Luke Morris
81 7. DI’S GIFT Michael Appleby Kevin Lundie (5)

Analyst’s Verdict:
C&D winner Di’s Gift should be straighter for his recent return and gets the vote in a tricky-looking contest. Mr Carbonator and Luv U Whatever could provide the biggest threat.

1.30 Betway Heed Your Hunch Handicap (4) 6f16y

Timeform Top Rated
100 11. BLACK SALT David Barron Robert Winston
98 3. ANGEL PALANAS K. R. Burke Jonathan Fisher (7)
98 5. MANSHOOD Paul Midgley Luke Morris

Analyst’s Verdict:
Black Salt was an impressive winner from a high draw on his first visit to Southwell last month and remains in form judged on his subsequent third at Wolverhampton off this mark. He can go in again, with the thriving Angel Palanas the obvious danger. Newcastlewinner Manshood would be a player if carrying on the good work switched to fibresand.

2.00 #Betyourway At Betway Handicap (5) 4f214y

Timeform Top Rated
92 1. TAN Michael Appleby Alistair Rawlinson
91 2. SAMOVAR Scott Dixon Kieran O’Neill
90 12. ENTERTAINING BEN Amy Murphy Dayverson De Barros

Analyst’s Verdict:
Tan won well on his last visit to Southwell and is in good form, so makes plenty of appeal back in a class 5 event. Bellevarde and Warrior’s Valley have both taken to the surface in the past and merit consideration also.

2.30 Ladbrokes Nursery Handicap (6) (D.I) 6f16y

Timeform Top Rated
70 2. MELGATE MAGIC Michael Easterby Nathan Evans
67 6. EVER ROCK J. S. Moore Luke Morris
66 3. COOL KITTY Rebecca Menzies Thore Hammer Hansen (7)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Melgate Magic failed to justify strong support at Wolverhampton 3 weeks ago, but he did shape well in the process, and the return to 6f is sure to suit. He’ll take some stopping in an ordinary race if taking to fibresand, with Cognac Blue and Ever Rock a couple of dangers.

3.00 Ladbrokes Nursery Handicap (6) (D.II) 6f16y

Timeform Top Rated
68 5. GEOGRAPHY TEACHER Roger Fell Jamie Gormley (3)
67 3. MICRONIZE Richard Fahey Non Runner
66 2. WHERE’S PERLE Michael Wigham Cam Hardie

Analyst’s Verdict:
Little solid form to go on in this modest nursery, but Geography Teacher did finish runner-up from 1 lb lower at Newcastle in October and the step back up to 6f should be in his favour. Where’s Perle and Rock Party head the opposition.

3.30 Follow Top Tipster Templegate At Sun Racing Handicap (6) 7f14y

Timeform Top Rated
85 8. ONE MORE CHANCE Michael Appleby Kevin Lundie (5)
84+ 3. BOLD SPIRIT Declan Carroll Zak Wheatley (7)
83 14. TOTALLY MAGIC Richard Whitaker Phil Dennis (3)

Analyst’s Verdict:
One More Chance has shaped well on both starts at this venue for Mick Appleby, understandably fading out of things over 1m last time give her early exertions, and she’s very intersting back at 7f having been dropped a further 2 lb. Jabarout is going the right way, while Bold Spirit should now be spot on fitness-wise.

Today’s Bets……..
