Yesterday’s members selection managed an 8/1 place with 10’s available at time of posting and the featured intro horse, Kupa River went a late non-runner in what was a confusing declaration from the off.

Today is the first day of the Royal Ascot meeting for those getting involved – if you follow the link Royal Ascot Timeform Magazine you can download a FOC 26 page preview from the speedmeisters to cover off  the next 5 days. Like we mentioned last week, there’s not a whole lot of serious punting here for us and looking at the opening day card, we’ve checked back the last couple of years trackers etc and we think the only one we have nibbled about is the rank outsider So Beloved who goes in the opener (14.30). We had bits about him in 2104/5 when he was doing it in C2 & 3. He is a genuine sort who generally gives his running but despite a good 2nd at York LTO he’s difficult to back even at a sentimental 50’s!!!

The only C2 is a 2m+ event that rarely features in our bets and we’ll look elsewhere today.

At Beverley this evening we have half an eye on Fahey’s Delph Crescent (20.00) – his pedigree suggests he should make up a decent  7f type – he showed good promise LTO at Leicester and we’ll be looking out for him being dropped back to a similar trip from this extended mile. As a 2yo he ran the now 107 rated Mildenberger a good 3rd at Haydock and now dropped to 64 he should be one for the coming months?

The best race of the day for us would be the 15.55 at Thirsk and we have one from that plus an evening selection at Brighton for members.

For those on the £1k to £10k challenge….our bank has grown by nearly 80% with an ROI of over 50%….current stakes are now £22.27 EW

2.30 Queen Anne Stakes (Group 1) (1) 1m

Timeform Top Rated:
140 15. RHODODENDRON Aidan O’Brien Ryan Moore
140 6. LIGHTNING SPEAR David Simcock Oisin Murphy
139 2. BEAT THE BANK Andrew Balding Jim Crowley

Analyst’s Verdict:
Recoletos was ultimately well on top at the line when making his Group 1 breakthrough in his native France last month and this straight mile should be right up his street. At the prices he is marginally preferred to Rhododendron, who had several of these behind when landing the Lockinge a month ago. US-raider Yoshida is a potential player, too.

3.05 Coventry Stakes (Group 2) (1) 6f

Timeform Top Rated:
123p 7. CALYX John Gosden Frankie Dettori
119p 20. SERGEI PROKOFIEV Aidan O’Brien Ryan Moore
118p 8. COSMIC LAW Richard Fahey P. J. McDonald

Analyst’s Verdict:
Calyx looked one of the best seen in the 2-y-o division when making a winning debut at Newmarket recently, storming clear to win by 5 lengths and recording a fast closing sectional. Admittedly, this represents a big step up in class, but John Gosden has a good record with such types and he shades the vote over Sergei Prokofiev, who has been at the head of the ante-post market for a while.

3.40 King’s Stand Stakes (Group 1) (1) 5f

Timeform Top Rated:
146 1. BATTAASH Charles Hills Jim Crowley
144 10. LADY AURELIA Wesley A. Ward John R. Velazquez
134 2. BLUE POINT Charlie Appleby William Buick

Analyst’s Verdict:
Were Lady Aurelia and Battaash to bring their best form to the table this would develop into a classic duel. The former defends an unbeaten C&D record and nearly broke the track record in a scarcely-believable show of speed 12 months ago and is marginally preferred to Battaash, who is as talented but has threatened to boil over pre-race a couple of times.

4.20 St James’s Palace Stakes (Group 1) (1) 7f213y

Timeform Top Rated:
137 5. ROMANISED K. J. Condon Shane Foley
136 7. TIP TWO WIN Roger Teal David Probert
134 8. U S NAVY FLAG Aidan O’Brien Ryan Moore

Analyst’s Verdict:
A competitive renewal but Without Parole created a deep impression at Yarmouth (backed up by the clock), and looks the one to focus on. He was fancied for the 2000 Guineas after that performance but had to swerve the race because of a setback, and though not as visually impressive at Sandown last time, that run came on soft ground. Tip Two Win is feared most ahead of Romanised.

5.00 Ascot Stakes (Handicap) (2) 2m3f210y

Timeform Top Rated:
117 8. DANNYDAY Sir Michael Stoute Pat Dobbs
114 15. STRATUM W. P. Mullins Robert Winston
114 5. DUBAWI FIFTY Karen McLintock Silvestre De Sousa

Analyst’s Verdict:
Coeur de Lion was doing all his best work at the finish when running Look My Way close at Chester and, with this more galloping track expected to play to his strengths, he could be the answer. Dannyday shaped very well on his Goodwood comeback and is a big threat, along with the progressive Dubawi Fifty. Lagostovegas could be the pick of the Mullins quintet, though Chelkar is also of interest.

5.35 Wolferton Stakes (Listed) (1) 1m1f212y

Timeform Top Rated:
129p 13. SHARJA BRIDGE Roger Varian Andrea Atzeni
128 10. MORANDO Andrew Balding Oisin Murphy
128 11. MUNTAHAA John Gosden Dane O’Neil

Analyst’s Verdict:
Sharja Bridge continued his theme of race-by-race progress despite meeting with defeat on return at Newmarket, finding only another progressive 4-y-o too strong. He undoubtedly has potential to rate higher still and is fancied to make a bold bid. Kidmenever arrives on the back of a career-best effort at Meydan and is feared, along with Big Country, Mirage Dancer and Laraaib.
