Tuesday Newsletter – 26th February

There’s racing at Catterick, Ffos Las and Leicester today with Timeform below for the latter.

At Catterick, Micky Hammond was in decent nick last week and his Rockliffe (14.20) must have a sound 8/1 EW squeak against a short priced even money favourite who remain as a maiden after 11 races and a Lady Ams race?

At Ffos Las (16.10), Greyed A goes on first run since we backed him – interestingly both his wins have been at the 3m mark and today they drop him back to 2m 3f with the excellent front running Daryl Jacob up top. It’s what he may need to spark a revival but not a concrete recommendation and another on at around 8’s. Matt Sheppard also saddles Rock On Rocky in that one who has dropped around 15lb this season. On past form he’d prefer something with a little more cut, plus all his wins have been at 2m but again maybe one to note NTO depending on conditions?

2.00 Daniel Lambert Mares’ Handicap Chase (4) 2½m45y

Timeform Top Rated
111 1. NORTHERN BEAU Michael Scudamore Richie McLernon
107 2. LADY MASTER Caroline Bailey James Bowen
92+ 3. OSCAR WORLD Martin Keighley Leighton Aspell

Analyst’s Verdict:
Northern Beau isn’t really progressing over fences, but this is her easiest assignment to date so she may well register her first Rules success. Lady Master is the obvious threat unless Oscar World takes a big jump forward.

2.30 Sileby Chase (Novices’ Limited Handicap) (4) 2½m45y

Timeform Top Rated
134 7. SACKETT Neil King Bryony Frost
133+ 2. NIGHT OF SIN Nick Williams Sam Twiston-Davies
133 5. CUDDLES MCGRAW Fergal O’Brien Paddy Brennan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Night of Sin capitalised on a falling mark and ultimately scored pretty authoritatively at Fontwell last month. A 5 lb rise looks fair and he is fancied to follow up. Low-mileage Cuddles Mcgraw and Wishfull Dreaming are also expected to get involved.

3.00 Leicestershire Open Hunters’ Chase (3) 2¾m151y

Timeform Top Rated
139? 1. CHAMPAGNE WEST T. M. Frost Miss Lilly Pinchin (5)
135 2. THE LAST BUT ONE Tom Malone Mr William Biddick
110 3. MANTOU S. Allwood Mr Edward Glassonbury (3)

Analyst’s Verdict:
With fitness on his side The Last But One is taken to make a successful start in hunter chases ahead of the 2017 Thyestes-winner Champagne West, who hasn’t been seen since last June.

3.30 Dan Frost Memorial Chase (Novices’ Limited Handicap) (3) 1m7f201y

Timeform Top Rated

140 4. ALL IS GOOD Robin Dickin Jack Quinlan
135 6. WINDSPIEL David Arbuthnot Bryony Frost
133 1. BOAGRIUS Tom George Ciaran Gethings

Analyst’s Verdict:
Master Work has improved plenty over hurdles this season, winning a brace of 2m handicaps and he appeals as the type to make a chaser. All Is Good and Boagrius are feared most.

4.00 Squire Osbaldeston Handicap Chase (5) 2¾m151y

Timeform Top Rated
111 4. MIDNIGHT MUSTANG Andrew Martin Jordan Nailor (7)
108 3. POLO THE MUMM Alexandra Dunn Sam Twiston-Davies
107 2. NOMINATION GAME Robin Dickin Jack Quinlan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Midnight Mustang faced a stiff task under a penalty last time and can quickly resume winning ways off his proper mark. Polo The Mumm is next best ahead of Nomination Game.

4.30 Cottesmore “Grassroots” Maiden Hunters’ Chase (5) 2½m45y

Timeform Top Rated
111 3. BRAVE JAQ R. D. Potter Mr Bradley Gibbs (3)
107 4. CHANGEOFLUCK Alan Hill Mr Jack Andrews (3)
100 6. HINXWORTH B. Clarke Mr Darren Andrews (7)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Brave Jaq only just failed to make all at Stratford when last seen, jumping boldly from the front and collared in the dying strides. This doesn’t look as strong and he can go one better if ready to roll. Changeofluck and Drumlynn could be the dangers.
