A cracking 5 days of racing with the ‘Glorious Goodwood’ Festival kicking off today, as ever the speedmeister’s have produced a cracking preview magazine that you can download HERE and we also have Timeform for today’s card below.

From yesterday’s intro notes, Saturday’s non-runner, ROUNDABOUT MAGIC was 3rd of 7 at Lingfield (13.50) on the AW. Obviously we didn’t make a play yesterday, and will look for him dropped to a C5 or below before considering again.

Our members selection was heavily backed from the 12/1 price we managed around 8.00am on Betfair and was gambled in all morning going off at 7/2 and finished 3rd….some small profits for those who got the 10’s when the newsletter arrived.

Back to today….at Goodwood, in the last (17.15) we  noted LABREGA’S battling qualities when headed in a C5 back in May – that earnt a high rating and today gets the assistance of Ryan Moore. She is very unexposed and could be anything at this stage and offers some EW value at around 8’s.

We’ve got one selection from that meet and also one at Beverley for members……..both a good double digit odds.

For those on the £1k to £10k challenge, it’s been 3 months of incremental profits…….our bank has grown by over 96% with an ROI of over 25%….current stakes are now £23.61 EW

Today’s Selections

Goodwood 13.50

A rare move into C2, but our previous winner SOCIETY RED gets to take his chance in the C2 opener  – he’s been backed from low 80’s from when we started following him at the beginning of the season and now 94 on the back of that nice York win we had.

His last run at Haydock was from a poor draw and perhaps didn’t get the 12f so the drop back to this looks ideal. He won a C2 at Beverley as a 3yo and whilst a C2 Beverley is not a Goodwood, if he runs to that he represents a live EW shout at monster odds with FOUR paying place offers on from most.

We’ve just taken 25/1 with Betfair and FOUR PAYING places

Goodwood 13.50 – Society Red

Beverley 15.50

The Midgemeister’s Elyssain Flyer gets the favoured trap 1 draw but he’s not exactly a quick starter and wanting to run as a ‘hold up’ we are on JACOB’S PILLOW. Back on favoured ground with some cut is expected to go well for Rebecca Bastiman.

He’s a quick starter and Jason Hart is a good rider from the front so the trap 4 has hopefully set this up for a decent run at big double digit odds.

We’ve just taken the EW 16/1 with bet365 this morning

Beverley 15.50 – Jacob’s Pillow

1.50 Matchbook Betting Exchange Handicap (2) 1m1f197y

Timeform Top Rated:
122 2. AFAAK Charles Hills Dane O’Neill
121 13. BRITTANIC David Simcock David Egan
120 12. THOMAS CRANMER Tina Jackson Nathan Evans

Analyst’s Verdict:
Afaak was really strong at the finish when runner-up in the Royal Hunt Cup last month, and on that evidence, this trip will unlock more, so the case for him is a compelling one from a reasonable draw. Dark Red has previous in this race and he arrives on the back of a career best, with Medrano interesting at longer odds.

2.25 Qatar Vintage Stakes (Group 2) (1) 7f

Timeform Top Rated:
116 5. COSMIC LAW Richard Fahey P. J. McDonald
113p 6. DARK VISION Mark Johnston Silvestre De Sousa
113p 8. DUNKERRON Alan King Martin Harley

Analyst’s Verdict:
Dark Vision already looks a bargain purchase after his impressive wins at Yarmouth and York, and it’s worth noting that Mark Johnston traditionally aims his best 2-y-os at this race. The form of Confiding’s debut win at Newbury couldn’t have worked out any better and his yard has a good line with a few of these through July Stakes winner Advertise. Any rain would make Cosmic Law a big player.

3.00 Qatar Lennox Stakes (Group 2) (1) 7f

Timeform Top Rated:
132 12. TIP TWO WIN Roger Teal David Probert
131 11. SUEDOIS David O’Meara Daniel Tudhope
130 8. SIR DANCEALOT David Elsworth Gerald Mosse

Analyst’s Verdict:
A really competitive renewal with little separating a number on form. Last year’s third Suedois gets the nod on the back of a fine effort in the Summer Mile at Ascot recently but Tip Two Win will be a massive threat if recapturing anything like his 2000 Guineas form, while Sir Dancealot arrives at the very top of his game. Emmaus is another fascinating contender but he is unproven on fast ground.

3.35 Qatar Goodwood Cup (Group 1) (1) 2m

Timeform Top Rated:
130 6. STRADIVARIUS John Gosden Andrea Atzeni
128 7. TORCEDOR Mrs J. Harrington Colm O’Donoghue
124 3. DESERT SKYLINE David Elsworth Silvestre De Sousa

Analyst’s Verdict:
A very good chance this will develop into a straight fight between Gold Cup 1-3 Stradivarius and Torcedor. The former hasn’t looked back since taking this race 12 months ago and can set himself up for a possible tilt at the £1 million stayers’ bonus at York next month by stretching his unbeaten record this year to three.

4.10 Nginious! Swiss Gin EBF Maiden Stakes (2) 6f

Timeform Top Rated:
100p 1. AL MUREIB Saeed bin Suroor Pat Cosgrave
100 3. DIRTY RASCAL Richard Hannon Tom Marquand
93 7. NAPANOOK Brian Meehan Oisin Murphy

Analyst’s Verdict:
Al Mureib shaped well in what was likely a good race on his Newmarket debut and will take a bit of stopping if progressing as expected. Richard Hannon’s Dirty Rascal has achieved fairly useful form on both starts and looks sure to figure again, while market support for his Ryan Moore-ridden stablemate Watan would also bring him into the reckoning. Gainsborough Hat is another interesting newcomer.

4.45 Chelsea Barracks Handicap (2) 5f

Timeform Top Rated:
122 14. OUTRAGE Daniel Kubler Luke Morris
120 3. EL ASTRONAUTE John Quinn Jason Watson (5)
120 5. COPPER KNIGHT Tim Easterby David Allan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Poyle Vinnie certainly wouldn’t be winning out of turn if getting his head in front here, and may well do just that given that he’s been knocking on the door of late and is 9 lb lower compared to when fourth in this race last year. Outrage put in good late work when third at Sandown and he has to be feared, while 2017 winner El Astronaute should again be on the premises, along with Copper Knight.

5.15 Matchbook Time To Move Over Fillies’ Handicap (3) 1m

Timeform Top Rated:
103 15. ODYSSA Richard Hughes Shane Kelly
102 2. HATEYA Jim Boyle Pat Cosgrave
102 6. DANCE ON THE DAY Tom Dascombe Paddy Pilley (3)

Analyst’s Verdict:
The one with the most striking potential by some way is Move Swiftly, who has looked highly promising in winning 2 of her 3 starts on the AW. An entry in a Group 3 at the Curragh later in the season suggests that connections have high hopes for her, which heightens the sense that she’s got in lightly for this handicap debut. Odyssa is next best ahead of Labrega, Elysium Dream and Hateya.
