Tuesday Newsletter – 5th February

Timeform for Tuesday’s meet at Market Rasen is below in the day’s sole surviving meeting.

In the opener (13.50) we’ll keep an eye on Mark Johnston’s Dr Richard Kimble – he seemed to be getting the understanding of what is required LTO when finishing 3rd at Newcastle. This looks a stronger race and is upped a grade to C4, though the 18’s looks worth of throwing 50p EW at for some minor interest. He’s likely to try and make it all from the off as Connor King bids to end a 20+ losing run at the track 🙂

In the (15.25), a wide open race and Crystal Lad was nibbled at LTO – last spring he was running to 126 at Cheltenham in a hurdle following an aborted chasing career. LTO the going was a bit quick and never got into the race. Off 6lb less, if rediscovering that mark represents another possibly for another 50p EW at lofty 16’s?

In the (16.00), Hatton’s Hill continues to frustrate since racking up a sequence at Hexham – he was in contention in first time blinkers LTO when falling at Wetherby and interestingly….but hardly a recommendation goes RH for the first time and ranks 3rd on the speedmeisters ratings below!

We’ve one going for members today in the notes below.

1.50 Sherwoods Marquees Juvenile Hurdle (4) 2m148y

Timeform Top Rated
138P 2. LISHEEN CASTLE Nicky Henderson Nico de Boinville
137p 7. FALDO Ian Williams Tom O’Brien
132p 9. PRAECEPS Alan King Wayne Hutchinson

Analyst’s Verdict:
Lisheen Castle overcame a serious mid-race mistake on his way to making a winning hurdles debut at Wetherby last month, and with significant progress expected, he’s taken to follow up. This is a good race of its type though, with Faldo, Praeceps and Irish-challenger Bachelor all respected.

2.20 Sherwoods Marquees Mares’ Handicap Chase (4) 2m3f34y

Timeform Top Rated
116 3. QUANTUM OF SOLACE Fergal O’Brien Paddy Brennan
113 1. PARLOUR MAID Richard Hawker Mr Shane Quinlan (7)
112 2. AGENT MEMPHIS Kim Bailey David Bass

Analyst’s Verdict:
Quantum of Solace was beaten only by a subsequent winner at Ffos Las 3 weeks ago and is taken to go one better off the same mark. Parlour Maid bounced back to form when off the mark at the second attempt over fences at Lingfield and is feared most.

2.55 Sherwoods Marquees EBF ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle (Qualifier) (3) 2½m139y

Timeform Top Rated
145p 3. MURATELLO Nigel Twiston-Davies Daryl Jacob
141p 1. CLARENDON STREET Nicky Henderson Nico de Boinville
140 4. SENIOR CITIZEN Alan King Wayne Hutchinson

Analyst’s Verdict:
Muratello shaped well when third in an up-to-scratch renewal of the Grade 2 Rossington Main Novices’ Hurdle last month, and assuming he copes with this step up in trip, he will take some stopping. Clarendon Street was impressive at Wetherby and is capable of better, while there’s also substance to Senior Citizens’ form.

3.25 Happy 80th Birthday Jim Gott Handicap Hurdle (4) 2½m139y

Timeform Top Rated
129 5. EARLOFTHECOTSWOLDS Nigel Twiston-Davies Sam Twiston-Davies
128 2. SEEMINGLY SO Olly Murphy Aidan Coleman
127 11. WAY OUT WEST Charlie Longsdon James Best

Analyst’s Verdict:
Earlofthecotswolds has brushed up his jumping following his defeat behind re-opposing Seemingly So here in November, winning at Carlisle prior to a solid fifth on handicap debut at Wincanton last month. Still unexposed, he is fancied to come out on top. Megalodon rates a likely improver now his attentions are switched to handicaps, whilst Twotwothree isn’t one to write off either.

4.00 Eric And Lucy Papworth Handicap Chase (4) 2m7f191y

Timeform Top Rated
122x 3. FOLLOW THE SWALLOW Graeme McPherson Tom Humphries (7)
120 4. FIFTY SHADES Christian Williams Philip Donovan (7)
120 8. HATTONS HILL Henry Hogarth Jamie Hamilton

Analyst’s Verdict:
Follow The Swallow has been in good heart this winter, clear of the rest when runner-up at Ludlow last time, and can end his losing run. Newberry New seems to be coming to hand and is on a winning mark, while Fifty Shades is well treated if bouncing back.

4.30 Sherwoods Marquees Handicap Hurdle (4) 2m7f16y

Timeform Top Rated
128 9. LOCH LINNHE Gillian Boanas Ross Chapman
126 10. VERY EXTRAVAGANT Neil Mulholland Sam Twiston-Davies
122x 11. MINELLA GATHERING Paul Henderson Paddy Brennan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Loch Linnhe pulled a long way clear of the rest when runner-up to a thriving rival at Newcastle last week and a repeat of that form may well enable him to go one better from the same mark. There are a handful of unexposed sorts in opposition, with Notachance and Corinto perhaps the pick of that bunch.
