Tuesday Newsletter – 5th March 2019

Tomkevi managed to throw Aaron Anderson out of the back door yesterday when in serious contention at the last after a nice drift to 18’s for our selection which was a real double whammy after missing LTO 🙁

Today there’s Newcastle & Exeter to consider – at the former, after bemoaning the lack of decent field sizes, there’s a weak looking big field 2m 4f Novice hurdle (14.30). There’s likely to be a muddling pace about that one that could throw something in at a big price but with little form on offer is hard to assess any real chances. We opted for a Rebecca Menzies charge yesterday and her Porto Du Sud has shown some ability in races, though with a tendency to pull hard. He’s dropped a bit in the weights now and following a wind op since last outing is on around 10’s. In the (15.00) the market could well speak and Lucky Lucarno is one for traders to note – he ran well enough at Cartmel when we saw him twice last term. The latter race threw out a good few winners and if he goes well on firmer going is another double digit consideration.

There’s Timeform for the west country venue and one selection from their today below……

2.15 Follow @GGCOUK On Twitter Conditional Jockeys’ Training Series Handicap Hurdle (4) 2m175y

Timeform Top Rated:
128p 1. SMARTY WILD Philip Hobbs Connor Brace (3)
127 2. FIELD EXHIBITION Grace Harris Jordan Nailor
126 4. MERE ANARCHY Robert Stephens Philip Donovan

Analyst’s Verdict:
The manner in which Smarty Wild stayed on for his Ludlow novice win last month suggests this stiffer track should play to his strengths and he can follow up on handicap debut with further progress very much on the cards. Field Exhibition is enjoying a productive campaign and may prove next best ahead of Midnight Midge.

Timeform Top Rated:
141 1. TRUCKERS LODGE Paul Nicholls Lorcan Williams (5)
135p 3. SECRET REPRIEVE Evan Williams Sean Bowen
129p 12. WALK IN THE MILL Robert Walford James Best

Analyst’s Verdict:
The form of the Evan Williams yard has to be a slight a concern for the chances of Secret Reprieve, but he was full value for his win at Chepstow in December, and with the form reading well, he’s the percentage call to follow up. Truckers Lodge is well respected back down in grade, while North Star Oscar could leave his opening effort over timber well behind.

3.15 gg.co.uk Cheltenham Festival Tips ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle (4) (D.II) 2m7f25y

Timeform Top Rated:
140p 2. PRESENT VALUE Evan Williams Sean Bowen
136 3. TRUCKIN AWAY Philip Hobbs Micheal Nolan
130p 1. DANNY WHIZZBANG Paul Nicholls Harry Cobden

Analyst’s Verdict:
Present Value posted a useful effort when making his second start a winning one at Chepstow in December and, with further improvement on the cards now stepping up in trip, he is fancied to follow up. Hereford-winner Danny Whizzbang and Truckin Away are expected to give him most to think about.

3.45 GG Fast Results Handicap Hurdle (4) 2m7f25y

Timeform Top Rated:
126 7. SOME CAN DANCE Samuel Drinkwater Harrison Beswick (7)
125p 10. MARCH IS ON Jonjo O’Neill Jonjo O’Neill Jr. (5)
124 16. TUDORS TREASURE Robert Stephens Ciaran Gethings

Analyst’s Verdict:
March Is On‘s Warwick second in December has been boosted a few times since and he could take a bit of stopping if turning up in similar form after a break. Farm The Rock was on the up in the autumn and it would be no surprise to see him resume his progression on his first outing back after wind surgery, while Some Can Dance was much improved last time and is unexposed as a stayer.

4.15 Weatherbys Hamilton Chase (Novices’ Limited Handicap) (3) 3m54y

Timeform Top Rated:

141 5. SPRING WOLF Robert Walford James Best
139 10. THE OGLE GOGLE MAN Charlie Mann Noel Fehily
139? 7. BILLY BRONCO Evan Williams Sean Bowen

Analyst’s Verdict:
Spring Wolf has proved to be a revelation upon joining his present handler, supplementing his course victory in good style at Taunton early last month. He is fancied to defy a further 6 lb rise in the weights. Lithic arrives on the back of a good effort and is feared, ahead of Garrane and Billy Bronco, whilst market support for Indian Brave would need to be viewed positively.

4.45 GG Tips Handicap Chase (5) 3m54y

Timeform Top Rated:
111 11. BUCK BRAVO David Rees Sean Bowen
110 2. PINE WARBLER Stuart Edmunds Ciaran Gethings
110 7. BIG TIME FRANK Polly Gundry James Best

Analyst’s Verdict:
Big Time Frank has made a habit of finding one too good through no fault of his own this season, unfortunate to bump into well-treated sorts the last twice, so he’s worth backing to finally go one better in a race that doesn’t look all that strong despite the numbers. The less-exposed pair Pine Warbler and Buck Bravo could give him most to think about.

5.15 gg.co.uk Handicap Chase (4) 2m3f48y

Timeform Top Rated:
124 4. PARLOUR MAID Richard Hawker Mr Shane Quinlan (7)
123 1. ZEN MASTER Charlie Mann Noel Fehily
123 9. KAVANAGHS CORNER Simon Earle Tom Scudamore

Analyst’s Verdict:
Parlour Maid displayed a good attitude to get back up on the run-in at Market Rasen 4 weeks ago and looks capable of completing the hat-trick. Kavanaghs Corner ought to be on the premises once more, while former point winner Wee Saxon should find this more suitable having faced a very stiff task from well out of the weights on his respective chase bow here 11 days ago.
