Tuesday – 9th October 2018

Brighton, Leicester and Catterick today with a host of runners who we have backed previously going at the latter. At Brighton EJ-H has Hedging out in the 16.00 under Charles Bishop – top weights don’t see too inconvenienced here and he threw in an improved run LTO. He’s just better that wipes yer face 6/1 this morning and both he and Buzz Lightyere, on 2nd run for John Gallagher,  at the top of the weights should be involved at the finish.

At Leicester, Richard Fahey’s Right Choice has improved throughout the season over the 6f trip – again it’s a bit tight on price for us today but should be around the enclosure in the 16.55 at around 9/2.

Yesterday was a wipes yer face day with Optimum Time nabbing the 4th paying slot for the 9/1 with a R4 deduction in the Windsor race that was subject to a host of non-runners.

1.20 Brighton Business Expo 11th October Handicap (6) 5f60y

Timeform Top Rated
82 3. SECRET POTION Ronald Harris David Probert
81 11. ASK THE GURU Michael Attwater Kieren Fox
81 7. ESSAKA Tony Carroll Sophie Ralston (7)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Secret Potion remains 1 lb below his last winning mark and is back in good heart again judged on a brace of third-place finishes in recent weeks, so he could be the way to go in an open contest. Wotadoll and Essaka head the list of dangers.

1.50 EBF Novice Auction Stakes (5) 6f210y

Timeform Top Rated
89 1. WATER DIVINER Richard Hannon Rossa Ryan (3)
81p 6. MARRONNIER Stuart Williams Daniel Muscutt
80 5. CASTLE QUARTER John Quinn David Probert

Analyst’s Verdict:
Water Diviner hasn’t progressed since his win at Wolverhampton in July, but this looks a good opportunity for him to get back on the scoreboard. Marronnier is open to improvement after just 2 runs, while War Chariot has plenty to find but should come on from his debut 2 weeks ago.

2.25 IT Electrical Contractors Nursery Handicap (5) 6f210y

Timeform Top Rated
87 2. NAYSLAYER Sylvester Kirk Edward Greatrex
85 1. RECONNAISSANCE Andrew Balding David Probert
84p 8. RED ARMOUR John Ryan Jason Watson (3)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Nayslayer showed a really willing attitude when seeing off a promising rival at Chelmsford last month and a 4 lb rise may underestimate him back on turf. Diva D also tasted success last time and is an obvious player, while Reconnaissance ought to be a factor at this level.

3.00 British EBF Novice Stakes (5) 7f211y

Timeform Top Rated
98p 1. CATAN Roger Charlton Adam McNamara (3)
97 4. MACHELL PLACE John Gosden Robert Havlin
88p 6. STARTEGO Archie Watson Edward Greatrex

Analyst’s Verdict:
Hard to rule many out, and it may be worth chancing Startego on debut for Archie Watson. He improved markedly from his first to his second run, and may well be capable of better still. Catan has a penalty but still looks sure to play a leading role, while Asian Angel and Bagatino are both interesting newcomers.

3.30 Cinestock Drive-In Cinema 12th – 14th October Handicap (6) (D.I) 7f211y

Timeform Top Rated
85p 1. ALLEGIANT Stuart Williams Silvestre De Sousa
79 5. FIELDSMAN David C. Griffiths Tom Marquand
79 9. LIMERICK LORD Julia Feilden Shelley Birkett (3)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Allegiant’s clear-cut win on handicap debut at Epsom last week is backed up by the clock, so his follow-up claims under a penalty appear to be bright. Comporta failed to justify strong support at Chelmsford but is surely better than that, with Narjes completing the shortlist.

4.00 Cinestock Drive-In Cinema 12th – 14th October Handicap (6) (D.II) 7f211y

Timeform Top Rated
79 11. COACHELLA Ed de Giles Silvestre De Sousa
78 2. BUZZ LIGHTYERE John Gallagher Charlie Bennett
78 3. DREAM OF CAMELOT Gary Moore Hector Crouch

Analyst’s Verdict:
Coachella was right back on his game when fourth at Bath last week, sweeping to the front from a wide position only to get reeled in late, so he’s worth siding with from the same mark with De Sousa retained. Imbucato and Buzz Lightyere head the opposition.

4.35 Love Fair Antiques & Collectables 21 October Handicap (6) 1m1f207y

Timeform Top Rated
81 9. WIDNES Alan Bailey Jessica Cooley (7)
80 1. AMITIE WALTZ Richard Hughes Shane Kelly
78+ 2. GLENS WOBBLY Dominic Ffrench Davis Poppy Bridgwater (5)

Analyst’s Verdict:
This is open, with Widnes a sporting selection given he is 2 lb below his last winning mark and shaped better than the result at Yarmouth 3 weeks ago. Henry Croft and Katabatika occupied the first 2 positions in a big-field AW handicap recently and look the main dangers.

5.05 Brighton Lions Firework Display 4th November ‘Hands And Heels’ Apprentice Handicap (6) 1m3f198y

Timeform Top Rated
68 1. KIRKLAND FOREVER Eve Johnson Houghton Georgia Dobie (8)
66 12. QUEEN ADELAIDE John Ryan Cieren Fallon (3)
66§ 7. LONDON GRAMMAR Ralph Smith Thore Hammer Hansen

Analyst’s Verdict:
Kirkland Forever and Grasmere rather stand out as last-time-out winners against out-of-form or limited rivals, with marginal preference for Eve Johnson Houghton’s filly. This is a more suitable trip for Buxlow Belle and she may have a bigger performance in her from her basement mark.
