Wednesday Newsletter – 13th February

It’s back at the coal face today with meets back on at Musselburgh & Plumpton. Nonetheless, for the time being the BHA will allow entries from only horses that have received a flu vaccination within the past six months. Obviously there’s going to be a clamour at the local vets as some trainers have a policy of  doing their vaccinations once a year in the summer!!!

However with just a total of 34 runners heading north for the six race card at Musselburgh there’s not a lot of interest up there.

At Plumpton, we’ve one for members at a decent EW price to try and get us back up and running.

Timeform for Wednesday is Southwell’s all weather meet…..we’ll be back on Thursday morning at around 8.00am

For those on the £1k to £10k challenge it’s currently a 35% win/place strike rate…..our bank is now £780.90 and stakes are now £9.76 EW

2.00 Betway Apprentice Handicap (6) 6f16y

Timeform Top Rated
73 6. CANIMAR Shaun Keightley Gavin Ashton (7)
72 3. GORGEOUS GENERAL Lawrence Mullaney William Carver (7)
71 2. LIAMBA David O’Meara C. J. McGovern

Analyst’s Verdict:
Canimar posted her best effort for a while when hitting the crossbar at Wolverhampton last week and, providing the visor works equally well second time round, she could be the answer back down in trip here. The in-form Gorgeous General has to be feared, while Liamba also enters calculations and Qallaab isn’t one to write off by any means.

2.30 Betway Casino Handicap (5) 1½m14y

Timeform Top Rated
92 7. ROYAL COSMIC Richard Fahey Sebastian Woods (5)
91 4. PURPLE ROCK Gay Kelleway Daniel Muscutt
90 2. COUNTRY’N’WESTERN Robert Eddery Darragh Keenan (5)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Royal Cosmic is thriving at the moment and the way she put distance between herself and the others despite a modest gallop at Newcastle last week suggests she’s up to defying a penalty despite the likes of Country’n’western and the lightly-raced Hidden Depths likely to provide formidable opposition.

3.00 Betway Live Casino Handicap (3) 2m102y

Timeform Top Rated
103 6. AMITIE WALTZ Richard Hughes Shane Kelly
102+ 2. RAINBOW DREAMER Alan King Hollie Doyle
102+ 5. AZARI Alexandra Dunn Rossa Ryan

Analyst’s Verdict:
This can go to Azari, who showed a fine attitude when landing the hat-trick here last month and remains on a workable mark. Amitie Waltz and Busy Street head the opposition.

3.30 sunracing.co.uk Handicap (5) 7f14y

Timeform Top Rated
86 3. SCREAMING GEMINI Tony Carroll Poppy Bridgwater (5)
85 2. GREY DESTINY Antony Brittain Cam Hardie
84 4. SOOQAAN Antony Brittain William Cox (3)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Screaming Gemini hasn’t managed a win yet but shaped well at Lingfield last month and is the pecentage call on his fibresand debut with blinkers refitted. He may have most to fear from the Antony Brittain trained pair Grey Destiny and Sooqaan.

4.00 Betway Novice Stakes (5) 6f16y

Timeform Top Rated
93 4. PLAYFULL SPIRIT John Gosden Kieran O’Neill
85 1. HAADER Derek Shaw Raul Da Silva
84p 2. POET’S PRIDE David Barron Ben Curtis

Analyst’s Verdict:
Playfull Spirit has proved expensive to follow but this does represent an excellent opportunity to finally break her duck now switched to fibresand. Poet’s Pride shaped well on his first try on this surface 10 days ago and is feared most.

4.30 Betway Sprint Handicap (6) 4f214y

Timeform Top Rated
84 3. SPIRIT POWER Eric Alston Jason Hart
83 4. ARCHIMEDES David C. Griffiths Phil Dennis (3)
83§ 5. PIAZON Julia Brooke Nathan Evans

Analyst’s Verdict:
Archimedes was perhaps unsuited by being ridden more patiently than usual at Newcastle last week and is selected to bounce straight back to form at a venue where he’s enjoyed plenty of success. Piazon, another who knows where the winning post is here, could be the one to give David Griffiths’ charge most to do.
