The start of the Ebor today sees some top class racing on the Knavesmire but nothing C3 to get us involved – of course there’s the odd ones we have backed before this season stepping up in class to take their chance with Harome going in the (13.55) Sky Bet And Symphony Group Handicap (Class 2). He’s come up short twice since his win and perhaps another of note is Tanasoq who was involved in earlier skirmishes when we were backing Acclaim The Nation and has progressed really well under the ‘midgemeister’ – but perhaps the Midge’s other runner Line Of Reason may offer more who looked to be a tad unlucky two runs back when well fancied and handed a poor draw at Ascot and has finished 3rd at the the same venue LTO – he looks in good order and on around 16’s.

We’ll leave York alone and head off to Carlise for our members selections today……..yesterday we had a near wipes yer face day with Give It Some Teddy running his usual consistent race and some nice priced place money offset by a loss , though a competitive run from Kenny The Captain who will be watched for future runs. We mentioned old Crazy T in the intro notes yesterday – a tad under our mark on 4’s but a few of you commented that they took it and were well rewarded with a pillar to post win from our other noted, Nigel Tinkler’s Allux Boy.

1.55 Sky Bet And Symphony Group Handicap (2) 5f89y

Timeform Top Rated
121 15. EASTERN IMPACT Richard Fahey Paul Hanagan
120 1. TIS MARVELLOUS Clive Cox Adam Kirby
120 14. HAROME Roger Fell Jamie Spencer

Analyst’s Verdict:
A chance is taken on Fashion Queen, who enjoyed her finest hour thus far when landing a listed contest here last season. She shaped as though close to concert pitch when going close at Deauville 25 days ago and makes her handicap debut off a potentially handy mark. There are dangers aplenty, including Tommy Taylor, the unexposed Culturati, Holmeswood and recent Ascot winner Tis Marvellous.

2.25 Tattersalls Acomb Stakes (Group 3) (1) 7f

Timeform Top Rated
112p 3. PERSIAN MOON Mark Johnston Silvestre De Sousa
110p 1. BROOME Aidan O’Brien Ryan Moore
108P 8. WATAN Richard Hannon Oisin Murphy

Analyst’s Verdict:
Persian Moon is on the up and has strong C&D form to his name that could count for plenty, so he receives the vote. Watan and Broome look good prospects, while the imposing Phoenix of Spain also deserves a mention.

3.00 Sky Bet Great Voltigeur Stakes (Group 2) (1) 1m3f188y

Timeform Top Rated
137 3. CROSS COUNTER Charlie Appleby William Buick
129 7. THE PENTAGON Aidan O’Brien W. M. Lordan
128 8. WELLS FARHH GO Tim Easterby David Allan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Cross Counter made a big impression when quickening clear in the Gordon Stakes at Glorious Goodwood 18 days ago, setting a new course record in the process, and sets a high standard if able to reproduce that form. His biggest threat may come from stablemate Old Persian, who had excuses in the Irish Derby after his King Edward success at Royal Ascot. Wells Farhh Go is another to consider.

3.35 Juddmonte International Stakes (Group 1) (1) 1¼m56y

Timeform Top Rated
140 2. POET’S WORD Sir Michael Stoute James Doyle
133 1. BENBATL Saeed bin Suroor Jim Crowley
133 6. ROARING LION John Gosden Oisin Murphy

Analyst’s Verdict:
As so many of Sir Michael Stoute’s leading lights have done over the years, Poet’s Word is improving with age. Indeed, victories in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes and King George have elevated this 5-y-o to the upper echelon of the middle distance division, and further success awaits here. Roaring Lion outpointed Saxon Warrior in the Eclipse and is feared most, though Benbatl also commands respect.

4.15 Sky Bet Handicap (2) 2m56y

Timeform Top Rated
116 13. EYE OF THE STORM Keith Dalgleish Phillip Makin
116 8. SOLDIER IN ACTION Mark Johnston Silvestre De Sousa
115 1. HOCHFELD Mark Johnston William Buick

Analyst’s Verdict:
Eye of The Storm appeals from both a handicapping and value point of view, having finished third to subsequent John Smith’s Cup hero Euchen Glen off 3 lb higher in June. Likely to go off at a rewarding price following a couple of lesser efforts (valid excuses on both occasions), he is worth chancing. Hochfeld and stablemate Soldier In Action are both feared, along with Here And Now and Speedo Boy.

4.50 Sky Bet Nursery Handicap (2) 6f

Timeform Top Rated
106p 10. ELJAYEFF Richard Fahey David Nolan
104p 1. DON ARMADO Stuart Williams Harry Bentley
104p 19. DARK SHADOW Clive Cox John Egan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Unsurprisingly there are several interesting contenders, but Evie Speed is top of the list having shown plenty of pace when overcoming a tough draw at Ripon and there’s also substance to her early form. Eljayeff chases a hat-trick and may have been let in lightly for this nursery bow, while Don Armado was impressive at Goodwood.
