Wednesday Newsletter – 27th February

Musselburgh and Wincanton today with both venues reporting good going and Timeform is for the former.

Yesterday saw Micky Hammond’s Rockliffe find the frame at Catterick but wasn’t the one to beat that short priced favourite and indeed he had Justforjames winning the (16.20) beating another odds on charge that gave Becky Smith a double on the day. Matt Sheppard’s Rock On Rocky placed 3rd at Ffos Las and we’ll have a look where he goes NTO and hope for softer conditions.

Today at Wincanton (13.50) – we’re never really Tizzard bettors but his charge, The Brothers did show some encouraging signs two and three runs back – he was stepped up at Sandown LTO in a C3 and the drop back to a C4 may see him near  the frame around 8’s in the opening Div 1 Hurdle – the Div 2  (14.20) looks as though Emma Lavelle’s Statistical could follow up on previous win and on offer around wipes yer face 9/2.

At Mussleburgh (14.10), John Williams rates one for the lumpers being dropped in class but Sandy Thompson’s 4 time course winner should be up to it under Rachael McDonald.

Finally, Pinspot goes in the (15.15) and should be open to improvement and reverse placings with Ben Haslam’s Call The Cops – Lucinda Russel’s charge is another on around wipes yer face EW price 5’s.

2.10 racingtv.com Handicap Chase (5) 1m7f182y

Timeform Top Rated:
105 1. JOHN WILLIAMS Sandy Thomson Rachael McDonald (5)
104 2. COOL VALLEY William Young Jnr Danny Cook
96§ 6. DUHALLOWCOUNTRY Victor Thompson Brian Hughes

Analyst’s Verdict:
This won’t take much winning and it’s an excellent chance for John Williams to quickly resume winning ways back down in class. Cool Valley can
place again.

2.40 Congratulations Catch Bissett-Employee of The Year Maiden Hurdle (4) 2m3f171y

Timeform Top Rated:
129 1. LANDSMAN Tim Vaughan Alan Johns
124 5. THE VERY THING Olly Murphy Richard Johnson
119§ 2. MAX LIEBERMANN Lucinda Russell Thomas Willmott (7)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Landsman was brushed aside by a couple of promising rivals at Huntingdon 10 days ago, but it was still a
promising eort on debut for Tim Vaughan and this is an easier assignment. The Very Thing is second choice on form, but
Murphy’s Law could easily make a leap forward.

3.15 You’ll Get More With ESPC Handicap Hurdle (Qualier) (4) 2m7f180y

Timeform Top Rated:
113 2. CALL THE COPS Ben Haslam Richie McLernon
112 6. SERGIO Tim Vaughan Richard Johnson
111 1. TRIANGLE ROCK Keith Dalgleish Brian Hughes

Analyst’s Verdict:
The form of Triangle Rock‘s latest Sedgefield second was boosted when the third won on Sunday and this 6-y-o can strike at the fourth time of asking for Keith Dalgleish. Call The Cops showed he’s down to a mark he can still be competitive from when second at Newcastle, while Pinspot was 6 lengths behind Ben Haslam’s charge on that occasion but his lightly-raced profile provides hope for better.

3.45 HGP And Partner’s 800 Homes Chase (Novices’ Limited Handicap) (4) 2m7f170y

Timeform Top Rated:
129 2. JUST MINDED Olly Murphy Richard Johnson
128 1. ELMONO Lucinda Russell Blair Campbell (5)
127 3. HENRY’S JOY Donald McCain Brian Hughes

Analyst’s Verdict:
None of the quartet can be ruled out but Elmono was more commanding than the margin suggests when winning over C&D last time so shades the vote over Just Minded and King Golan.

4.20 Introducing Racing TV Handicap Hurdle (4) 2m85y

Timeform Top Rated:

131 3. ROYAL RESERVE Lucinda Russell Blair Campbell (5)
130 5. THE CHARACTER Donald McCain Brian Hughes
129 6. KALANITI Chris Grant Sean Quinlan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Royal Reserve did well to overcome the run of the race when making a winning yard/handicap hurdle debut at Newcastle last month, quickening well to lead run-in. He looks sure to go well again, with his rider’s claim offsetting his subsequent weight rise a further plus. Wot A Shot and Manamite head up the dangers.

Timeform Top Rated:
115 1. TOKARAMORE Iain Jardine Bruce Lynn (7)
113+ 3. RUBYTWO Nicky Richards Danny McMenamin (7)
111 4. HOPE’S WISHES Barry Brennan Jordan Nailor (7)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Rubytwo was probably a shade unfortunate to bump into a big improver on her Newcastle handicap debut in December and is likely capable of winning off this mark. Tokaramore is another who has the ability to go close of her current rating but needs to deliver a bit more come the crunch. Recent Plumpton scorer Hope’s Wishes is also respected.

5.20 Like Racing TV On Facebook “Grassroots” Hunters’ Chase (Qualifier) (5) 2m7f170y

Timeform Top Rated:
122§ 1. FLYING EAGLE Mickey Bowen Mr Peter Bryan (5)
121? 4. KILLER CROW N. W. Alexander Mr Kit Alexander
118 3. GRAN PARADISO Norman Sanderson Mr Ross Wilson (7)

Analyst’s Verdict:
A pulled-up effort between the flags last month isn’t ideal preparation for Shimla Dawn, but in the hope he shrugs that run off, he is more than capable of winning a race of this nature. Flying Eagle is also tough to assess at present given the form he’s in, while Gran Paradiso tackles regulation fences for the first time but does arrive in reasonable
heart.
