First Day of the Dante Meeting at York and the guys from Timeform have produced a preview of the meet that can be downloaded for FREE at the York Dante Magazine link.

Elsewhere there is Bath and Yarmouth on offer – at the former, potentially one goes for you lumpers in the 20.25. The unseasonably named Christmas Night goes without a penalty for his win at Beverley LTO over an extended 7f. It’s a bit early for our 3yo’s and also short for us at 5/2 in a 16 runner and we’ll note how Ollie Pears gelding performs and see if he can be one of those who rises the ranks this season.

At York, Orion’s Bow has been a big market mover overnight in the 14.55 – the 2016 Stewards Cup runner up has dropped from 103 to 90 and Tim Easterby’s charge ran a ‘note-booking’ performance over the minimum trip to finish 3rd at Ponty on seasonal re-appearance. 9/2 looks a bit short with one who may find this a bit fast and preferring a bit of cut – veteran and fit from Dubai, Out Do ….could well Out Do him 🙂

In the last 17.35, you may want to look at something double digit price going in the last race of the day?

David Thompson describes VISITANT as a ‘big laid back’ type, but there was nothing laid back when he powered home under ‘old dodgy’ Doyle to win the Ice & Easy Frozen Alcoholic Slushies Handicap last term in a big field handicap on the Knavesmire.

His last outing he was beaten by Carnageo who he re-opposes here. However that was on softer going than today and he does go well from fresh. It’s 2f further today and we’ll be noting how he goes or if this is a prep race for another big 10f Handicap – but he could well run a place at around 25’s.

Nothing for members today and we’ll be back tomorrow.

2.20 Sky Bet First Race Special Jorvik Handicap (2) 1m3f188y

Timeform Top Rated

119 4. ISLAND BRAVE Heather Main Luke Morris
117 8. TUFF ROCK Ed Walker Edward Greatrex
116+ 5. CONTANGO Andrew Balding Oisin Murphy

Analyst’s Verdict:
Hamada highlighted why connections have been so patient when making light of a 19-month absence at Wolverhampton recently, notably travelling well and ultimately scoring readily. A 5 lb higher mark looks fair on that evidence and he can continue the good work back on turf. This is a competitive race of its type though, with Now Children and Crowned Eagle just 2 potential dangers.

2.55 Infinity Tyres Handicap (2) 6f

Timeform Top Rated

123 12. ORION’S BOW Tim Easterby David Allan
122 10. OWER FLY Ruth Carr James Sullivan
121 11. CLASSIC SENIORITY Marjorie Fife Barry McHugh

Analyst’s Verdict:
Orion’s Bow is well treated on his best efforts and his promising reappearance third at Pontefract suggests a return to his peak form may not be too far away. Foolaad had the selection in behind when making it 8 wins in his last 10 starts at Pontefract and is likely to give another good account, while Richard Fahey holds a strong hand courtesy of Gin In The Inn, George Bowen and Private Matter.

3.30 Duke of York Clipper Logistics Stakes (Group 2) (1) 6f

Timeform Top Rated

133 1. HARRY ANGEL Clive Cox Adam Kirby
130 6. TASLEET William Haggas Jim Crowley
129 2. BRANDO Kevin Ryan Tom Eaves

Analyst’s Verdict:
Harry Angel was ultra impressive when landing back-to-back Group 1 events last term, and whilst not at his very best at Ascot on his final start, he is fancied to concede weight all round and make a winning return. Abernant-winner Brando and last year’s winner Tasleet can do battle for the forecast spot.

4.05 Tattersalls Musidora Stakes (Group 3) (1) 1¼m56y

Timeform Top Rated

109p 1. CEILIDHS DREAM Ralph Beckett Harry Bentley
108 7. LUBINKA Peter Chapple-Hyam Oisin Murphy
103p 6. HIGHGARDEN John Gosden Frankie Dettori

Analyst’s Verdict:
Impressive debut winner Highgarden had failed to meet expectations when third at Sandown on her return but there was still plenty of promise in her run, taking a while to get going but strong by the finish, and she’s taken to turn the tables with Give And Take. Ceilidhs Dream did well to overcome a slow start when edging out a well-touted newcomer at Newmarket and is another to consider.

4.35 Conundrum HR Consulting Handicap (3) 7f

Timeform Top Rated

112p 2. COMMANDER HAN Kevin Ryan Kevin Stott
110p 12. CAVATINA William Haggas Harry Bentley

Analyst’s Verdict:
This is almost certain to prove strong 3-y-o handicap form, but Commander Han chased home a patternrace performer in the making on the AW last month, and if he’s as effective on turf, the handicapper has taken a big chance with his opening mark. Desert Doctor and Citron Major head the opposition.

5.05 British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes (3) 5f

Timeform Top Rated

97p 7. WORLD ORDER Declan Carroll James Doyle
91p 1. MAYSON MAC David O’Meara Daniel Tudhope
90p 2. DELFT DANCER Mark Johnston Jim Crowley

Analyst’s Verdict:
World Order came clear with a subsequent winner when runner-up at Doncaster on debut last month and sets a high standard. Leoube and Rathbone hail from yards that have won this event in recent seasons and need keeping an eye on.

5.35 Oaks Farm Stables Handicap (4) 1m3f188y

Timeform Top Rated

103p 12. REVEREND JACOBS William Haggas James Doyle
102p 13. SKY EAGLE Ed Walker Pat Cosgrave
102 1. MUTADAFFEQ David O’Meara David Nolan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Reverend Jacobs’ form didn’t take off last season, but he has the look of an improver this time around and appeals as the type to pay his way in staying handicaps. Sky Eagle, Zeelander and Okool all merit respect, particularly the firstnamed who’s a big strong colt clearly ahead of his mark.
